Yesterday my shepherd/rot mix and I were out in the woods clearing a new home site about 70 feet away the buffs were on the hunt out of the corner of my eye a flash then feathers fly birds take flit dog takes off I'm not sure what I just seen so I take off after the dog through thick woods and ceder thicket at a dead run when I got to my dog she was going crazy I was bent over going backwards when I stood up to my surprise eye to eye with a 90 pound bobcat no weapon thank god he was as scared as I was I could fill his breath on my face he dropped the buff and ran off with dogs chasing bird is still in shock only two visible wounds in wings but I'm sure some internal bruising she won't eat or drink today I cant move people over 50 should not go Rambo  my wife didn't think I could move like that any more . Lesson learned a chicken is not worth what could have happened.

That is a BIG kitty!

Wow! That makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. My husband asks me to carry a pistol when I'm out with the animals at night. He saw a big cat a couple of years ago, and our neighbors confirmed seeing it as well.

Our indoor kittens are growing fast. I think it's because they spend most of their day sleeping.

Cats seem to love hammock type beds.

MJ, I believe it is a buff dundotte. It should do just fine with your cochins, especially if it is a female. The buffs are in the brown category, and the browns have gender specific color characteristics in that the females are darker than the males. Without another of the opposite gender to compare, it is difficult to be sure, but if my memory serves me right, this one looks on the dark side. I've found that guineas raised with another specie will often behave more like the flock than like your usual guineas, which is likely a good thing. At least mine that were raised early on with silkies are quite a lot calmer and friendlier than the usual guineas, though it may be because I interact more with the young silkies. This one may be young enough to take on more of your cochins' attitudes. It will likely breed with the cochins, and the resulting "guins" will be somewhat unusual looking. Some are really quite nice looking, while others look rather strange. The guins are generally sterile and don't seem to live more than a few years. There have been some very endearing stories of the short lives of specific guins. If this guinea is a male, it will probably also do well, but sometimes the males will be too aggressive to the roosters in the flock--at least those that were adults when they joined the flock.
Thank you for such good information! If Uno is female I might just keep her.
It has taken almost 5 years but I now have chicken breeds besides Cochins - Wheaten Ameraucanas and I am now building a pen of Blue Marans. Of course I have my Showgirl, but a guinea isn't a chicken.

Quote: one of my guineas has a crush on Galahad, she hangs with the chickens most of the time, he will call her over for treats, it really is funny to see, then she will take of with the guineas for awhile... all of mine are people friendly, will come up to visit, occasionally i can even pet one-

looks like dragon did it again- both are cockerels...sigh... for now they freerange all day together- any chance they will end up fighting?

They are very cute look happy and contented like they should. Rough life but hey somebody has to take care of the sleeping job.

Is scoots holding his sale in Newcastle this weekend? Does anyone have his number available?

Robin,
The bantam games are no different than others once they have established a pecking order they are done, cockerels are fine with each other when raised together even once mature. I raise 10-12 together in pens and separate only the ones I intend to show to keep feather quality up.

That is a big kitty for sure. Glad it wasn't a mountain lion. We've had those in our yard in Stillwater. Exciting to see but no where near as exciting as your adventure. Yikes.

I'll have to see if I can get pics later but our little silkie girl Hoshi is sure a toot. She's figured out how to get under the fence and out into the straw bale garden where she happily built her a nest amid the tomatoes which she steals and eats. She's even gotten our boy silkie Sa Kin to bring her food while she sits there. Naw, she's not spoiled or anything. Lol.
