it happens sometimes, often it is due to not enough calcium- my girls have been laying well in the heat, except i have the makings of a broody epidemic - what are yours eating and do they get oystershell?

15% egglayer pellets and no oystershell. i had thought of getting some but was not sure if they need it because the egglayer is suposed to have some in it.

it is a good idea to have it available to them, they will eat it if they need it- put it next to their feed - i find some of mine do need it, some don't

Hi all. I have a question I hope that you can answer for me. I have a hen that is having trouble walking, and I noticed that on her right foot her toes are curled under. She hasn't gone through anything that I know of to hurt it except for possibly jumping from the nesting box to the ground. In the past month she seems to of gone broody on me as she is always in the nesting box, even with other hens eggs. I have made sure that she gets out and gets a drink and goes outside for a while each day, and not just continually sat in the box. I have had her about a year, and she was an older hen when I bought her, but I don't know her exact age. Several months ago I had another hen that I had bought at the same time that started doing this and eventually died. I thought I had hurt her leg when I was teaching them to use the roosting bars at night instead of the nesting boxes. Does anyone know what causes this or what it is and most importantly what to do about it? Any input is appreciated!

I'm so sorry you lost your hen....I had a young pullet get really curled up feet and found out she had coccidiosis. She was so weak she could barely move and would tip over. She never had the bloody stools. She looked mangy too. A round of corid and then yogurt after took care of it but it took 3 weeks to heal. If it could've been coccidiosis you may want to treat the rest of your flock if they show symptoms

My pullets are about 4 months old. When do I need to start egg-layer feed? And is oyster shell a necessity? Mine are mostly in a run because of neighborhood dogs who always seem able to find a way through the fence.​

I have lost 5 hens in the last month or so. One to the curly toes and 4 to a neighborhood dog or critter!!!!! UGH! (That problem has been taken care of) I am needing to replace them but can't spend a lot . I raise only large brown egg layers, doesn't matter the breed. If anyone has some pullets that are getting too big for their flock or aren't of show quality and want to get rid of them, I would be interested. Hopefully it would be someone close around my area of Sand Spring (W. of Tulsa) and don't want too much for them. Thanks!

Okay I'm seriously getting a complex now about dishwashers. Over the last few years we have had 2 bosch dishwashers brand new break and be completely unfixable after multiple attempts by the warranty people. So this last time we decided to get something other then a bosch, and went w/ a GE, which had good reviews, and now the kitchen is a lake (well maybe a pond) and one of the hoses underneath the machine is leaking at a manufacturer joint!!!!!!




At 4 months I would offer oyster shell for sure. As long as they have oyster shell you wouldn't HAVE to switch to a layer feed if you didn't want to. IMO oyster shell is ness. w/ or w/o layer food, each chicken is individual and some need more or less, Ca, that way they can self regulate.

we just got a kenmore.. we love it. we had a kenmore that was about 15 years old, finally went kaput. and so we went ahead and got another kenmore. http://www.sears.com/kenmore-24inch...nse-trade/p-02213039000P?vName=&cName=&sName= is the one we just got. we picked it up from the store instead of delivery, and it was easy to install. i am sorry you are having issues with dishwashers.

are those hibisucs? i didn't think the would servive in the winter here. I love hibisucs i had one but i accidently killed it in the heat last year i had it in pot and forgot to bring it inside
