***OKIES in the BYC III ***

And have you noticed all the puffballs? I've never seen so many. It is a fungal heaven out there.
Love the cat picture!
Lots of rain here today. Everything's soggy. The humidity is prompting hundreds of mushrooms to sprout in the yard and the front pasture. The chickens are curious, but they haven't eaten any of the mushrooms.
Here's what they look like after two days:
I'm expecting to see brownies or fairies having lunch under these fungal umbrellas.
I've seen a few fairy rings lately the conditions are perfect for them, It's too bad the most common mushrooms around aren't edibile but I think the puffballs are as long as the inside is still white with a bread -like consistency I haven't been brave enough to try them so far but I keep trying to work up the nerve LOL Does anyone here know if they are and if they are any good?

So I usually make pictures smaller when they are in a response like this one and the other day I noticed for the first time that there was some Latin text tagged or with the picture when I was editing the properties, this time it did the same thing but the text is different, I don't mean to spam the thread but it's curious enough I thought I'd share it LOL
The Latin text is (not that any of us speak Latin)(I sure don't);
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Maecenas feugiat consequat diam. Maecenas metus. Vivamus diam purus, cursus a, commodo non, facilisis vitae, nulla. Kass how did they turn out? I have a friend who has a GF recipe blog, she tests all her recipes on non-GF people and they are DELISH! http://www.gluten-free-reality.com/ if you are interested.

SAD STORY: We are now fighting the City of Catoosa to be allowed sell our chickens and it looks like we will lose because our side of the street is in city limits. Their words- "you cannot use a residentially zone property for a commercial purpose."
hu.gif
Across the street from us is not city limits. We are allowed to have the chickens but we cannot "raise poultry for resale." Geez, I get that they don't want me to create a poultry farm, but I only have about 30 adult chickens, in clean well cared for breeding pens. Yeesh. If they knew we were selling honey and bees they would probably take issue with that even though of our 25 hives only about 8-10 are here at home.

We were about 6-12 months out for looking for a bigger place anyway, this just moves the timeline up. Went and looked at a few properties today that are definite possibilities but nothing we love yet.

So my loss can be someone else's gain- I am selling all of my Ameraucana stock (show quality blues and blacks) $25 apiece. I have a black rooster, a 1 year old blue rooster, 3 blue and 3 black hens. Some hens are about 10 months old and the others are about 1 1/2 years. I also have a brooder full of black chicks and a few blue chicks $6 each straight run, 1-5 weeks old. I will have two more hatches after this.

Also selling all my adult Black Copper Marans but keeping the babies I am raising out. They are decent stock with a good dark egg color. $25 per hen, $15 for the rooster. I think I have 8 or 9 hens. Various ages. One is the one I was asking advice for the other day with a pendulous crop- I will sell her for $15, as I assume she will need to go to the stew pot before her crop gets worse and she shouldn't be bred.

I am also reducing my stock in my other pens as I will only be hatching for myself until we have a new place:
1 RIR about 1 1/2 years old, I got her as a POL pullet last fall. $15
1 white leghorn age unknown but still lays 5-6 eggs per week. I've had her for about 6 months. $15
2 Cream Legbar hens with gold hackles, roughly 10 months old from Jordan Farms hatching eggs. $50 each

PM me if you are interested. I will be listing on Craigslist tomorrow. Make offer if you are taking at least 5 or 6 birds.

Black Rooster (the hen with the brown cast to her muff is already sold to a layer flock)

Big Stuff, the BCM rooster:

Blue Ameraucana rooster is the one in the front, this picture was about 3 months ago:

One of the blue hens: They all have great conformation and good lacing. Some of the hens and the black rooster came from a guy up in Kansas who shows, they are BlehmXSmith lines. The blue rooster is pure Meredith line. They were to be the foundation of my flock and I was going to show someday. You can see the RIR for sale in this picture too.

Thanks always on the look out for GF recipes.

It turned out pretty good, and surprised me that it actually worked. I think if a person has access to a good GF grain pizza dough, the grain dough would be better. However if a person lives in the sticks and can't get access to good grain or dough easily, or if a person is wanting to be low carb and enjoy pizza this is a good alternative.

It is easy 1 pkt full fat cream cheese (8oz)
2 eggs
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
garlic powder, black pepper to taste

combine all ingred. mix till will bleded (electric mixer) pour onto pammed pan, (9x13ish) cook at 350 for about 15 min until golden brown, let cool for 10min, top w/ favorite pizza toppings (and sauce) cook for 10-15 minutes until cheese good and melty, enjoy.

I was surprised that the cream cheese made a solid "crust", tasty though the texture would be odd for anyone used to the real gluten foods.

This year was a good year for mushrooms i have heard that you can eat puff balls too but i'm not brave enough to try them either how ever earlier in the year we got a lot of morels and my dh ate them i ate a few but i don't care for them much. i like the store bought mushrooms better.

Yes, I just cut the corner out of the bottom of the bag ...makes a taller cone...but yours looks great! And it serves the purpose.
Grandmother always said "Necessity is the Mother of invention."
there were no poos on the water today so it looks like it did the trick
