***OKIES in the BYC III ***

POOR CHICKEN!!!! We have a dog that occasionally gets the neighbors chickens. The boy will shoot it with a bb gun but that isn't going to keep it away. Sad to say but my husband wont tolerate it and will probably take care of the animal if it sets foot near our chickens. Have you talked to your neighbor about the dog killing your chickens? If you have show chickens or ones that you have paid a good amount of money for then you would think you could file a police report and let them know that it is their dog. If you don't do a camera system there are always those tree cameras that hunters use. Those are pretty reliable. Then you have proof that it is their dogs. Wave those in their face and threaten to sue them, maybe that will get them to think again? Poor chicken.

Lol! Yes splash is what I meant. Im not keen on the black ones but I like the look of the splash Ameraucanas! They are so pretty! I need to stop looking at your chicken breeds on your site or I'm going to want more! My list what I will want from you is Ameraucanas, French black copper marans, Isbar, and Cream Legbar. If possible I would like to buy day old Ameraucana and maran chicks then the other two breeds eggs. My husband is pretty picky on how much I buy my chickens for. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have a show quality chicken out of all of them since my daughter has shown interest in showing. Just let me know what I can order and what the costs are/quantity min. and I will start planning on an order.

Well remember, splash Ameraucanas are not accepted by the APA yet so they can't be shown. Same with all colors of Isbars and with Cream Legbars. The Cream Legbar Club is working on it but it will be 5+ years before the qualifying show. But my blue and black Ameraucanas are SQ, and I'm producing some good BCMs and some bad, I'm hoping with the new stock I bought this last summer I will have more good than bad hatching out next spring. If you'll do local pickup rather than shipping prices will be lower than my website just FYI. Also you can get as few/many as you want if your local pickup, min order of 10 if I have to ship. We'll hook up in the spring!

@lonnyandrinda .. I'd be interested to see your BBS Barnevelders, tried to get some hatching eggs but the PO had their way with them.
I'll share pictures in a few weeks, the babies from Fisher's Farm just arrived this week so not much to see. I do have a 4 month old trio coming in the next week or two, exhibition quality from Cornerstone Farms in Virginia.

Kass, praying for your little niece and family.

Our niece lost her baby yesterday... two weeks before delivery. Had to have a c-section. The placenta stopped growing at 32 weeks causing the baby to stop growing. We are just reeling from this.
Oh Nana that is heartbreaking. Prayers for your family. That is such a tough thing to go through.

NanaKat, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's so difficult to lose a beloved family member, but the loss of a baby and all that potential love has its own special grief attached to it. My prayers are with you and your family.

He was a retired Lt. Colonel and had lived a very full and rewarding life; continuing service to his country and community even after his retirement from the military. The service was beautiful and the National Cemetery at Elgin is very nice.

Nana, I'm so very sad for your Niece. She has a long road of emotional recovery ahead of her, one of the worst things in life to happen to someone :-(
Those 3 gal rubber tub saved me last winter. It was so much easier dumping the ice out and refilling them. I still had to haul water in 5 gal buckets twice a day when it was below freezing but with my husband's help it really went fast, they sure sucked down the warm water when they got a refill.

Betsy, I'm sorry also for the loss of your cousin, he sounds like a man his family was rightfully proud of. What a comfort that must be.

5AcreFarm, if I bought 20 roosters to see how my dogs did with them I'd be better off to just flush the money down the toilet & save the hassle of hauling 20 roosters home. It's dogs in front and birds in back penned with hotwire between around here. A lady told me once she just 'explains' to her dogs that the chickens are HERS and they respect that. I could just see me screaming "THOSE ARE MINE!!" chasing after 12 dogs gulping down chickens :-/

Sooner, aren't they terrible?? They dangle chicken pictures full screen in front of your face! Even after you've told them you don't want anymore! They're heartless.

I have *1* Silkie left from June 2011 that I got out of a batch of 16 from Ideal Hatchery. His name is Stanley and I adore him. He'll sit on my lap and rub his face against my cheek. I wanted a little piece of Stanley in case I lost him like I've lost so many so I set 2 of his eggs 3 wks ago laid by the 2 tailed Araucanas (the rumpless girls are in with the boy I got from Kass). At the same time I set an egg from my really special Bantam Blue Ameraucana, he's a very sweet boy. The Ameraucana baby was hatched and screaming his head off this morning and the 2 Stanley babies are pipped :))) I can't believe the fertility I have with hatching my own eggs compared to shipped eggs, for whatever reason. I hope Stanely's babies make it out as easily as this 1st chick did. Here's a picture of Stanley I've posted before with 2 Silkie girls I got from Betsy 2 yrs ago. I know he'd never make the show circuit but he's sweet as can be.
Oh. And I set the Gold Laced & Dark Brahma eggs after all. Did anyone really think I wouldn't? Sigh.

Betsy and Kathryn, sorry about the losses in your families.

I'm sitting here bored to tears at work. Our system has been down all day and they won't cut us loose to go home. So I've got to sit here another 4 1/2 hours waiting to see of the system will get brought up.

Spent yesterday in Norman and Elgin at my cousin's funeral and burial. He was career military and a highly decorated hero. After the civilian service in Norman, he was given an impressive full military service at the Fort Sill National Cemetery at Elgin, including a 21-gun salute. So important we honor those who fight for our freedoms.
Prayers for your family and a thank you for your Cousin's service.

NanaKat, do you happen to know Kelvin Blackwell or Shelley Meeker? Maybe a Jayneen Wilson? Just thinking of some of those I know in your area that I am familiar with. We use to live in Pryor but moved 30 min away so my hubs could be closer to work. Just thought I would ask since I saw you listed you are from Meeker.

BetsyOK, God bless him for giving his time and service so we all can have a better country to live in and raise our children in. It sounds like he had a great life and he was dearly loved by you and your family. Prayers going to you all.

Haha, Kyz

. How's your girl doing??
Here's the proud papa of my newest chick baby. He's a Bantam Ameraucana named Blizz. He's one of my most favorites. He got special treats to feed his girls today.

And some of the Orps I got from Elwood (Bill).
They may look too chunky to run but they can beat every other chicken in that yard to the gate when I go out there with food.

And the gorgeous rooster in the yard with the Orps, he's one of my Faverolles/Orloff boys, love him to pieces.

And my Spitz boy. This group is molting like crazy. He looks so funny without tail feathers.

And no chicken yard is complete without Sebrights!
