***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes, I was feeling a little giddy last night when I wrote the stories...I truly don't believe chickens have human emotions...they are chickens. But sometimes personality and attitude sure make us think they do.

I sure hope none of you catch what ever this is I have and now hubby is showing a few symptoms.
Lost 10 pounds the first three days from fluid loss, continuous nausea and loss of appetite, killer stomach cramping, fever and shakes. Yesterday was a good day. Today not. We know it isn't the flu from blood tests at the ER and was told by my doctor with a fever, we are contagious.

Sounds like what I had a few months ago, I lost 10 lbs in 3 days too and 15 by the end of the week. It took weeks to recover, it was aweful.

Oh wow! Sounds like a bug that could be sold as a weight loss program! I hope all who get it feel better! I am buying some chicks off a very sweet lady in (West) Tulsa. She said she had been very sick this last week. I wonder if that is the same stuff she had. Felt so bad for her. Just make sure you keep yourself hydrated!

I have had my little flock for a day and a half now. I actually got a few eggs from them

so far. My daughter held our largest hen and she was just tickled pink (black sex link my son named Big Red... and it doesn't have any red at all... why that name is beyond me). Our hens seem to be really getting use to us and especially the children. Our other three we have a barred rock, Rhode Island red, and a white Ameraucana. My kids keep going out to "check on them" and they stay by the coop and chat with them for quite some time. We fed them tuna this afternoon and I have never seen chickens go so crazy over a meal before! Unfortunately our rooster still refuses to come out of the coop. He wants absolutely nothing to do with humans which makes me think that he must have been "just another bird" from where he came from. So sad. He will be a beautiful roo (Ameraucana) when he gets his feathers back. He crowed this morning at least if that makes any difference I have no idea. He always lived among other roos so he never got his own girls is what I was told. Hope having his own ladies makes him feel more of a man and boosts his self confidence. Well, I noticed the hens going a little stir crazy in their enclosed environment. I am looking forward to letting them out and let them free range once again.

I think it would make a great military asset...would debilitate entire troops! It's that painful. Another member here described it as rabid gerbils trying to naw their way out of your intestines.

Sounds like your flock is settling nicely and your children have bonded with them. Crowing is good. He probably wasn't allowed to by the more dominant roosters in the flock. he will come around. Go into the coop with your treat for him and set it near him. See if the hens are bullying him.

Got a pic of the grey girls. For some reason I was thinking it was mjgigax I got these pretty girls from, but Shelbydog said she wasn't at the last Tahlequah swap. They're skittish and won't let me anywhere near them.

Kyz - are your chickens blue ameraucanas? I've got 3 only 2 months old and try to work with them everyday. They have really come around since I bought them. Also have a 1/2 barred rock and 1/2 ameraucana. She will be pretty I'm hoping. How old are your chickens? They sure are pretty.

Trues- that youtube video you posted was funny, what will people think of next for their chickens?

I am often surprised how human like my critters behavior is, I find watching chicken t.v. to be quite entertaining. I enjoyed your play on words and thought you did a good job of passing along your tale.
