***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Loved the sunrise this morning..took several photos too. Had to break ice on all the water containers and added hot water to each. The birds were banging on the gates to get out like prisoners behind bars. I satisfied them with a little scratch. Egg numbers are increasing even with the cold...good girls! Babies are getting bigger...the Delaware bantams are now the size of LF newborns...lol.
So far we are just getting a little sleet, but the weather maps show snow is coming. We have a cow ready to domino with her second calf this year. Hope she waits until the snow melts.....

Stay warm everyone

A big HOWDY to the new folks.

I have buff brahma bantams when the weather clears a little I would give you a male bird if I have some thing that would work for you . Will also have some in Shawnee Show . Always like to see people interested in showing.

I'm only showing two silkies--a paint pullet and a blue cockerel. Wasn't sure if I'd be well enough after our trip to China, so only entered these two. I'll be bringing several showgirls for sale, as well as regular silkies.
Hi Betsy! Looking forward to seeing you at the show. It will be a busy day for us. Show in the morning then spending the rest of the day with my daughter since it is her birthday. Could not talk her into coming to the chicken show... She is not a fan of chickens unless they are in the pot... hehehe!

I don't see why it wouldn't work. We use those clear plastic totes and they work just fine. Different sizes for different numbers of chicks, and easy to clean.
Oh, best of luck finding those eggs this time of year, but it could happen.

I would discourage the use of aquariums. They are heavy, hard to clean and almost impossible to sanitize due to the adhesive holding the glass together. I use the clear plastic totes and have modified them using a soldering iron to cut holes out for screen, waters and feeders. As I only use plastic and metal they are incredible easy to clean and are light weight. When I get the one I have been working on finished I will take pics and post.

So a couple months ago I bought my replacement chickies and a couple weeks ago I moved 53 babies to my best pen it's a little crowded but they're still small yet and doing well but last week I found on two different days some bits of intestine laying on the ground in the pen so I'm sure i'm missing at least two birds, I set some live traps and caught a large tom cat so removed it from being a threat, after work yesterday I found a dead buff orpington with it's chest and stomach torn open and entrails pulled out, now the rest are locked in the large iron coop that could hold any predator at bay so they are safe but more crowded and more traps set, I know that there are more cats around but not certain what got the birds there is a six foot fence so whatever it is is able to go over and carry back out an almost 3 month old chicken, a couple of the cats around belong to my new neighbors they are outside cats and left to hunt as they want to, I'm pretty sure the one I got was a feral one they are really thick out here it's a shame how people have cats and when they move away they just leave them to fend for themselves.

On a brighter note though I have the whole week week off next week so the focus is will be on making the pens even more critter proof, contingent on the weather of course, We have a light covering of ice here not too bad I hope it goes away quickly
Sorry to hear about the critter problem. Totally know how frustrating that is!!!

I'm from Michigan and I got a new Subaru. Can't wait to take my poor, shivering, southern DH up to the beautiful North for the holidays.

Better pack you DH some long johns and electric heated onesie..... hehehe!
My driveway in this morning's sunrise. It's a phone camera, so it didn't capture the full glory of the pinks that covered the sky. Something about cell cameras always has problems with those shades.

I love Oklahoma sunrises!!!

Hey Don! Are you getting any snow yet? Should I put the Delawares in the barn or can they sty in their outside coop for several days. They were out running around this morning going after the scratch. The Buckeyes are loving the outdoors too but they like their small coop with lots of hay too.

Of course, the Wyandottes and Cochins want out of their run. I took them some clipped grass this morning along with some lettuce and grapes.

Hi Everyone!
Hope everybody is staying warm. Spent some time out this morning setting up wind breaks for the birds and making sure there was feed and water for everyone..
With the weather how it is and is forecast tonight, there is a good chance there will be no school tomorrow.

No one likes snow days more then teachers... Just saying!

Looking forward to the Shawnee show!

This sure feels like napping weather and I think I hear my pillow calling me.... Have a safe day everyone!

No snow here yet. Delawares should be fine if they can get in side out of the weather. My boys called told me not to get out they got my chores , guess there is some advantage of being old:D;)

We have an electric blanket that plugs into the accessory jack- he said he bought it for me

Looking forward to seeing you in Shawnee, Rebecca--and everyone else who is there. Hope the weather permits a show! I drove home alone from that show during the horrible ice storm about 7 years ago, and it was scary! The last 30+ miles for me are on a two-lane, winding, hilly highway, and it was rough! Then bad for a week afterward. We were only out of power 5 days and are nearly all gas, so we at least had a cook top and hot water.

Everyone stay safe!!
