***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello fellow Okies, new to this site, and learning so much. Cannot wait until this spring to get started with raising chickens. I raised chickens several years ago, but then moved into town, now that i am out of the city limits, ready to have fun raising some feathered friends. I have learned so much from this site, so glad it is here.

Here's a BIG

bardies those babies are cute, did you hatch them? Me and Karley got the pieces we needed tonight to try to build a DIY incubator

Did hatch them. It was a joint effort between manufactured, home constructed and borrowed stuff. Good luck on yours?
Thanks everyone, these must be the cutest babies ever! (and I thought that NN chicks were cute....)

Just pulled freezer camp cockerel out of crock pot....meat fell right off the bone. I should have pulled it out a bit earlier but fell asleep. But no worries, tasted good to me.

Welcome to the new peeps. Sorry about the recent bird losses. I'm still saving for a fence. Until then only the free range (read expendable) roosters are allowed to roam.

Speaking of the silly boys, they won't go in at night anywhere. They are out ther right now perched as high as they can get crowing their heads off. It's 20 DEGREES!!!!!!

There's going to be a chicken and small animal swap in Tahlequah this Sunday (December 1st). I'm taking some pullets and some capons. There isn't any cost to set up, so bring your birds and bunnies and we'll have a hot chocolate-fueled sale/swap. I'm bringing my camp stove so we can heat the water. Anybody want to bring dunking cookies? Here's my ad on Craig's List. I'm hoping it will reach the folks I usually see in Tulsa. http://tulsa.craigslist.org/grd/4216424865.html

Edited to add info from the facebook page for the sale/swap.

I'm bringing a can of Folger's Instant. I could also bring some snackie type foods. I know Dusti is bringing cocoa.

And I'm hoping my pen will finally be finished this weekend, just in time for the swap.

Coffee! Chickens! Coffee! Chickens! Perfect morning.

Wow! I don't get on here for 4-5 days and I miss a lot! Hope everyone is doing good with this cold! I am NOT enjoying it. at all. period. Our neighbor finally got rid of that darn rooster that was over acting as Romeo for my little hen. Now its just my four hens roaming the yard and they are so happy with no man around! My five LO babies (6 weeks old) are getting HUGE! The only boy is looking so handsome! I saw the post about giving away a LO cockerel and I wish I could take him! Jeansrie if you can't find him a home I know my neighbor kid would be MORE than happy to take him! He has a whole bunch of chickens but lost quite a few last week to another neighbor's dog. Only problem is that I don't think he can drive to pick him up and the distance between him and Tulsa is about 30 min. I will talk to him about it and see if he wants him for sure and get back to you if you wouldn't mind driving and maybe I can meet you to pick the baby up for him. Speaking of that dad-gum dog, it was in our other neighbor's yard today when my girls were out. I saw the darn thing run away and thought that it might have gotten them! Scared me so bad I could barely bring myself to go check because our hens go into their yard a lot. Luckily I found the first two in my yard and the other two were scratching around the neighbors front yard and acted like nothing was ever seen. Still scared me so bad! I can't believe how much I worried over CHICKENS! I think I have lost my ever-lovin' mind. Oh dear! I think I am becoming a chicken addict! I even found myself talking non stop about my hens to my mom the other day. She tried to change the subject and I just kept talking about them!!!

<------ that is what she wanted to do to me I am sure!

I'm pretty sure you and I got the orpington's from the same lady in West Tulsa.. she was very nice and said if the chick turned out to be a cockerel she would let me trade for a pullet, but I just have too many anyway. I could do a 15-min or so drive away, my kids don't like to be stuck in a car for any length of time.
