***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Rinda your birds are so gorgeous! And Robin your little babies are ADORABLE!

I'll be so tickled when my up-and-coming colored egg layers get busy this spring.

And @hotcurltr I only just got show quality birds, and only because we're planning on getting my granddaughter involved in 4-H. I love my chickies, and I could care less about any pedigrees. I want them to be happy and healthy, and if they let me pick them up and give them a squeeze on occasion, so much the better for me, because chicken therapy is only second to grandbaby therapy.

Love the pictures! Robin, I can't wait til my big ole' group of Silkies, Sizzles and Frizzle Silkies get that big :-D between all the hatches and the hatchery group I've ended up with 25 of them. I've zip-tied their legs to keep them all organized.
Hotcurltr-I actually think the majority here keep birds just because they enjoy them. But we all enjoy them for different *reasons. Some for show, some for companionship, for a hobby, for nurturing. My favorite of all are the mixed breeds I've hatched myself from my own eggs. There's something about hatching eggs from birds I'd hatched and raised myself that is really special to me. But thank God for the serious breeders, too. Otherwise where would the rest of us get good quality birds when we wanted a specific breed?
Today I'm hoping to get the last of the shavings put into coops and sheds and hopefully be ahead of schedule when the cold hits in a few days. What did I do all these years before I had to haul feed and hot water out to birds twice a day?? Did I really sit and watch the snow from the window and think how pretty it was?? Now all I can think is how cold that air is they have to breathe :-(

double post..so to make it worth it, here's some baby pics... tried to get them all looking up- not gonna happen

Oh Silkies are so cute.......just not a breed for me though

I conceded enough by ordering a Cochin for my 5 year old!

~~Don't think I will ever have to reseed morning glories. I am cleaning up the dead vines and have about 1/2 done and my "brush" pile is about 4 feet tall and 4 feet across.

That reminds me, those that were wanting raspberry starts, anytime from now till spring (on a non frozen day) they can be dug up and transplanted. Just get w/ me for meeting arrangements.

Oooooh, raspberry starts! I'd love some! I have tons of blackberries on my property, but I only recently planted two raspberry vines and I'd love more.

I love your babies!!! I have been looking for some silkies for my daughter that are possible show quality so she can show for 4-H. I can't find any unless they are $20 a chick and in another state like California. Any chance you can tell me where you got yours?

I do have one big question. Is there anyone who just has chickens and loves them but doesn't show them or even care if they are show quality. All but my roosters(hubby drove over 150 miles to get one of them), came from hatcheries and I did get a few chickens early on from breeders that I still have; I'm very happy with them all,
I have some fancy birds and some that are only fancy to me. I love them all.
