Being proficient at incubation is definitely a learning curve thing... It doesn't help to say, it is not your fault and these things just happen... I finally gave up using an incubator and just have gone with letting what ever hens are broody hatch the eggs.. Lowers the electricity bill and gives my persistent broodies a job.. I just take the chicks away when they hatch until the hen hatches all I have set for her then let her have a couple to raise and break her of the brood instinct.. It is a win-win situation and I have a much better hatch rate.I allowed them to sit for 24 hours, point down, at 58-68 degrees. I then put them into the incubator. They were about a week old when I put them in the incubator. They have been in there for 6 days now. Some of them are not opaque any more and I cannot see through them. I think my incubator may have gotten too hot. :0( I checked with MyPetChicken and they did not have any chicks available for several weeks - which would throw me into the same problem of introducing docile, younger, and smaller birds into my flock. I am just so totally new to this I feel like I am running blind!
I totally understand this. Most anyone who loves animals have experienced a wonderful, close relationship with an animal. I have been blessed to have several stories of animals I have been close with...Here's a little story I posted elsewhere, just for the heck of it. True story of my own dog and the struggles I went through with her.
That crazy dog and I, we share a relationship I never thought possible. I still have that stinker! She is stubborn, still. But I keep on top of her.If you made it through this post, thank you for reading it. I hope it was worth your time.![]()

Another option is get clear plastic shower curtains at Walmart or Dollar General and cut those to fit.. That way you still have light in the house... The way I have my curtains I am able to fit them using a rod and reuse them every year... Of course I did splurge for the ones that were a bit thicker...@KSANE here is a link to the ones at walmart

I really do want them (unless you decided to keep them) but it gets nice out for 1/2 a day then it gets so flipping cold! I am NOT a winter person and I know you aren't either.I'm meeting Poco at some point by her place to get tools from her. You live west of her, right? I could meet you at that Walmart again. I'll PM you when it gets closer to the day I'm meeting her.
Robin, what size are those blankets? That would be good for ofuses.s
