Hello everyone! I love how chatty this group is!!!

I saw someone mention birds that won't go out with this snow and I thought I would share my quirky birds. I have 27 and not one of them will step in the snow inside of their run, so I thought it was safe to leave the gate open!

The entire flock saw the open gate and nearly trampled each other to get in the yard!!!!

We don't let them into our yard, kids play yard, much for obvious reasons but I do let them out occasionally close to bedtime when I don't want them lose in back (we have a large unfenced, treed area where they free-range).

They can't stand the snow inside their enclosure but snow in the back yard is obviously better for walking right? So the silly birds are getting a run-about today, mostly because I'm not going to try to chase 27 birds where they obviously don't want to go!

Gotta love chickens!

too funny!! yep they keep ya laughing- i have one girl, gabby, who will hop from one non snow covered place to another, no way is she going to touch that white stuff

I bought a thermometer with a humidity gauge to put in the big coop. Last night it was reading 34 degrees with over 100% humidity. The coop is not air tight. Have ventilation through open eves on south and north ends. The top of the east side is still open. The top of the west side is covered in a loose shaker shingle pattern were the over lapping boards have gaps. There is a large open wire screen transom window over the door.

That humidity is way too high, right? but we are having precipitation so maybe that's why??? Thoughts?

That is absolutely why. If you had taken humidity measurement outside - it would also have read 100%.
There is a chance that if you had a coop that was air tight...it might have actually been drier - that is until the chickens humidified it for you.

Lovely Girl!

That mix of white and buff, I want to achieve that same look with my Brahmas with the black "collar"!

Anyone know how possible that would be with a Light Brahma and Buff Brahma mix?

. I will definitely try those. As for apple cider vinegar, I actually drink it with water quite often. I find it an enjoyable addition to water.

My mom works in a hospital, and she recommended Listerine because it has thyme oil, and steeped thyme is actually a remedy for sore throats.

And she says that gargling hot saltwater works for her without a doubt. I guess I'm just throwing ideas out there.

my grandma always gave us honey and onion simmered till the onions are clear, really helps with a sore throat too

do you have anay herbal teas?

Oh goodness! Honey... And onion? And I thought honey and black pepper sounded bad! D: But I might try...

Yes, plenty of those.

I have been drinking more tea than ever before as of late.
