***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I bought a thermometer with a humidity gauge to put in the big coop. Last night it was reading 34 degrees with over 100% humidity. The coop is not air tight. Have ventilation through open eves on south and north ends. The top of the east side is still open. The top of the west side is covered in a loose shaker shingle pattern were the over lapping boards have gaps. There is a large open wire screen transom window over the door.

That humidity is way too high, right? but we are having precipitation so maybe that's why??? Thoughts?

~~The humidity will build more inside than out with all the birds in there.
Outside humidity was way up and there was no wind, or breeze last night.
Therefore, nothing to remove the inside without an exhaust fan.

Even then the humidity would still be high because of the high humidity outside being brought back in,

Hatching advice NEEDED!

silkie egg pipped (on time - yay!) yesterday afternoon. You know how normally they break the egg but it take a while to be a hole.? well, this one was a hole as soon as I noticed it. Probably about 3pm. This morning - the other two eggs hatched yesterday all the way - they had pipped, but then unzipped and hatched within an hour. (these were naked neck chicks). The silkie has made no progress past just a slightly bigger hole - and it looked like the edges were browning a bit. Last time, I had one die during the 18 hours or so I was considering helping it. So, this morning - around 11 am, I started a zip for it. Immediately hit blood and put it back in bator. How much time should I give before trying again? Its still alive. It is well over 24 hours since it pipped too. Why would it have done that so much ahead of time if it weren't ready to hatch?

Anyway, I don't want to try again too soon, and certainly don't want to wait too long (again) either.

I would help it now- ASAP. Being pipped that long with no progress does not look good. Very likely leg problems. If the chick makes it make sure it gets some vitamins to help it get leg strength and overcome any deficiencies.

I would help, I bet it is shrink wrapped. I would do it in warm room w/ warm water and q-tip

@lonnyandrinda
, are you breeding Isbars yet? :D  I remember I got to see them when I came to get my chicks. :)

Hopefully! All three hens are laying now, but I have a test hatch due in 10 days then I have to raise them to six weeks old to prove to myself I've fixed the bacterial infection. If 60% make it to six weeks I'll be satisfied. Just candled and 10/11 are doing great. So I will be clear to sell eggs and chicks in about early march.

Nowata, Nowata, Nowata! I'm so ready for Nowata!

I hope the prices don't go too high. I just know my flock would look great with some English Orps in it, but I'm keeping myself to a budget.

I can't wait to see everybody there! If you want us to text you when we get there, PM me your number.
