***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am so sorry! I can't help you with finding on to buy but If you have some old fabric (shirt, sweater, towel) you could make one! Heere is a link for patterns and pics! https://www.google.com/search?q=chicken+diaper+pattern&espv=210&es_sm=122&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=zGjPUrCoNsqArAH7iYCACg&ved=0CC4QsAQ
I will check those out. Thank you!
So sorry Kyzmette. We try so hard to make up for some of the stupid things that our chickens do...and sometimes we just cant do everything. :idunno Do you participate in freecycle where you are - possibly another avenue to find someone with a diaper. I wonder if you cant rig something short term with an infant diaper and some scissors. Good luck!!!
Didn't even think of freecycle, thanks!
Sorry, I don't really know... :hugs Here are some hugs for you. Hopefully you find some chicken diapers...
Thanks, all hugs are appreciated.
here is who i go through for anything like that http://www.louisescountrycloset.com/chicken-diapers/ do you have him on any meds?
I'll try Country Closet before I buy from Amazon, thanks! I have him on Tylan, trying to get rid of a cough he picked up. Epsom salt soaks on the feet, and a few grains of tramadol in his food for pain. I'm going to stop on the way home tonigbt and pick up neosporin without pain reliever and plain aspirin.
I could be way off here, but it seems one could be made from two bibs from the dollar store, scissors, and a glue gun. The velcro tabs could cross over the back maybe or just hook over the wings if I am right. If it has ties it could be secured over the back by tying the ends.
That's actually a fabulous idea. I'm really wanting the kind with pouches, to hold the droppings away from his rump. I think I could rig him something out of plastic potty training pants. I had him in a pair of my panties, but they were too big. And yes, it WAS hilarious. Thank you all SO much! Oklahoma chicken people come through again!

That Country Closet seller is where I get most my hen aprons, she's a nice lady

Kim, if there's a way you can bind the chick's wing to his body by wrapping gauze or something around his body to hold the wing flat, I'd do it. Their bones are like Playdough the 1st few days. If they "harden" in a certain position they just stay that way always. Just like with spraddle leg and crooked toes. I don't think the ones that get help hatching are weaker or more prone to problems in the least. Although I do think chicks/chickens in general are prone to problems as a rule. The chicken gods giveth and they sure take away.

Update on the chick:
Fuzzed up pretty well - let it out of the incubator this morning. The two day older nn chicks in comparison are HUGE. Maby a good reason not to hatch mixed batches...
Anyway, it seems to be doing everything right so far. Does not seem to be in pain - I heard the chick version of yelp once when its fluff got pulled and then when it was stepped on by another chick. I touched and pushed a little on where the bump is and it did not yelp. The bump is still there, although you cant see it anymore through the fluff. In fact, if you didn't know what you were looking for - you might not notice for awhile that something is amiss. With the fluff - its harder to tell that the wings a bit twisted. Really, only when it raises the wings up can you see that they are not symmetrical.
You silkie breeders - is this possibly a genetic defect that is found in silkies? ( I ready something somewhere about wings that are not tight against the body - but I don't remember what it was called).
Even though this bird might end up as a gimpy pet - its already a lot more endearing than the naked necks.

Once when reached my hand into the brooder they ran to the corner as fast as they could - squeaking like mouses. And then, when I placed the bowl of water in this morning (they had met it last night - but it was not left inthere) the lighter one took to it right away, the other noticed, then came over and watched for a bit, then tried....and promptly ran away squeaking like the water had electrically shocked him. ok, that was cute. He's figured it out now, but still....

Bowl isn't in there until the silkie gets it together a bit more.

I was going to post pictures, but the picture tool is 'acting' different, wont allow multiple pics and then I get an error message....

<-Oh, hey, the wing looks like this guy.

:lau I do believe I'd have paid real live money to see a rooster wearing your panties lol!
You could always wrap his feet and changes out the wraps a few times a day.

I agree, and you cant really notice it at this point with the fluff - though when wing feathers come in I am sure it would be more noticible. What concerns me most is that odd floating 'bone' or whatever it is. Could indicate some structural problem. Though, luckily for silkies - flying is not a priority! I have a vet that likes to see chickens, so I will be talking to him about this. Though the idea of getting a day old chick xray'd does not appeal to me.

leah's first baby has hatched! the girl that lost her chick a few years ago and has been moping ever since- well a friend sent me some delaware andalusian mixes- dottes and orps- so here she is with first chick, 2 more are pipping under her and 5 in the bator should be pipping soon-

Yes! Please send her my info, send me her info, however it needs to work, please and thank you! Let her know if she can throw one together today I will come by after work to pick it up. I specifically want the kind that has the pouch-like bottom, so it doesn't get smeared all over the bird's rump. Those come with plastic inserts, typically, but if she can't do those so quickly, that's perfectly understandable. They run around $10 without the inserts, $15 with two inserts, but that was on Amazon. And they'll need to be about bantam sized, since he's not fully grown. I know that's a lot to ask on short notice, so if she can't it's entirely understandable.

If she can't do it today, I might pull my sewing machine out of storage. It's been so many years since I last used it, though, I don't even know if it works.
PM sent. Sorry it took so long.

I am interested in growing fodder, does anyone know where I can get bulk wheat seed in the Tulsa area? Amazon has 10lbs for about $20 with free 2-day shipping, didn't know if that was a good deal or not though. Thanks for any help!

Tell mama I send my congratulations! Beautiful color. I haven't seen that color in a newborn. But I have different breeds and am still learning about all of them.
I looked at your artwork for the first time last night. I hadn't taken the extra time I should have before. (Did I say extra time. Is there really such a thing.LOL. I'm sure most can relate) Breathtaking to say the least. Maybe if I start saving my pennies someday I can have you do a pet portrait for me. There is just so much talent around here. I'm in awe. I really mean jealous, but that;'s a no no.
