***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Was Really great to meet True5 and have a chance to chat a bit- the boy is home, as had a foot soak, put lanolin on his poor feet and he is in a 'hospital cage' on a towel to sooth his feet a bit-

and on another note- this is my absolutely awesome tractor from custom coops- he did an awesome job, they stayed warm in the worst of the weather and i plan on getting more...! He is local and really is a piece of craftsmanship!

I never even thought about that. It makes sense. I've seen my chickens pick up a feather and eat the end of it. I never really thought much about it, since I really try to feed well. My goats have a goat bucket. (mineral). Just putting this out there, but maybe it would help
I've seen that too. Why do they pick up and chew on the end of a feather? They look silly....

Poor little guy, hope he gets better.

I really like your new tractor, is the person who built it on BYC or have a web site? Thanks

Todd is in tahlequah and on byc, custom coops, and i highly recommend his coops! This one is so solid and well put together, i would think the only thing that might harm it would be a bear shoving it over, it is that solid! He is also on facebook, if you go there- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Four...!/pages/Four-Seasons-Handyman/244064488971450

here is the roo after his foot soak, fed him and gave him acv water-

Definitely looks like frostbite to me on the buff cockerel, Robin. Is that the conclusion you came to? So glad he's in your hands, he'll get the care he needs from someone who doesn't know the meaning of "time to quit" :)
I'd love to have a tractor like that for several of my b antam pairs. Great work he did.

True5 said...I have a different case now. What do you do or give a chicken with a respiratory thing going on? She is probably around 4 months old and is sneezing, drainage. I know she has had it for a super long time because the neighbor kid gave her to me. She is a little frizzle that is the bottom of the pecking order and never really had good shelter even in those really cold nights. Poor thing. I put her in a crate in the garage with a heat lamp and necessities. I use that VetRx stuff in the black bottle and supplemental vitamins. Is there anything else I should give her?
Denegard is easier to find locally than the Gallimycin. Add a little honey to the water too because the Denegard must taste bad.
True5 said: This is a question for everyone actually but I pulled this down because I think it could be related. I'm telling ya, if its one thing its another this past week!!! My lav orp cockerel that was having leg issues is fine with his legs now. Figure it was an injury or the vitamins worked. So now his face is swollen and his eyes are teary. I looked up cocy.. oh shoot I cant remember the name of it but I wrote down some things that I could give him to treat it. I just don't know what YOU all would give him. I have never heard the names of the things this scientific site listed (like speaking another language). I just need to know where I can get it and the name of it. Heres a pic of his poor little face. Oh the poor boy!!! I need something I can treat ALL of my flock! Especially the bantam pen! Poor baby! He is in a crate in the garage along with the frizzle in a separate box. He was NOT happy. The frizzle I think is happy not to be pecked on as everyone was pecking on her constantly. So much that her head is almost bald. I promise that I am a very clean person and these things just sprang up when the neighbor kid brought his sick birds to me. I gave him back his sick birds when I saw they were sneezing and drainage but kept the frizzle and put her away. I thought since all my original birds came from him it would be ok. I never thought he was so careless and passed it off as they have a "cold". As if it was nothing. Ugh! [/quote] Definitely respiratory. Best to treat your whole flock. Sometimes this comes in with wild birds robbing food from your feeders. Best advice I ever got for treating the whole flock came from CJarvis. Get a pig feed with oxytetracycline and feed it for two weeks. It comes in a small pellet like layer pellets in 50# bags. I found it at Shawnee Feed at 177 and Hardesty Road. You can keep treating the single bird like Rinda said.

I had a known dog massacre and no they were not stacked, they were scattered everywhere, even the ones she moved she didn't stack they were moved and scattered.
The stacking makes me think raccoon.. I have had several dog attacks and never had them stack the chickens up.. Dogs just kill and move on. They might take some with them for trophies or a late night snack.

I will try to find those... do you just get any one of those from a feed store? The resp meds I mean... unless I can find one of those adorable dogs there as well that would be a plus! I don't know much about giving chickens a shot so anything that doesn't require a needle is great for me. Oh I LOVE your dogs!!!!

Look at that FLUFFYNESS!! Love it! Oh, I tried your site. It wouldn't load for me. :(
Giving a chicken a shot is not really hard. Also make sure to give the shot in the meaty part of the breast but make sure not to go extremely deep.. This can be challenging if you have a bird that is under weight but just check around the breast bone.. I use 22 gauge needles that you can get at Tractor Supple and Atwoods.. Over the years I have become highly proficient at giving shots. Of course I had practice on humans long before I got chickens..

Some of the others from today (mine this time not ksane's)

Little girl, I don't know if this is possible but I think she is daughter of Little Man (Manny). He is a black breasted red araucana, don't have a clue how he would make a daughter w/ this color, but she is so small and he was my only small chicken male or female.
I have a hen that looks a lot like this one. She is a typical ameraucana size but is very sweet..

I found a pig feed with CTC and denagard in it. I need to get the OTC feed b/c it's supposed have better uptake that the CTC.
Be aware that pig feed uses chicken as one of the form of protein..

NanaCat----would you mind sending me a pm with your prices and hatching dates. I DO want some of the mixes. And are they sexed or straight run? Didn't mean to put u on the spot, if it doesn't bother u , u can just post it on here too and not send the PM

Do ya'll know if you can feed it to ducks and geese? I've ben wanting to treat the whole flock and the pathology report said the PM was suseptable to tetracycline among others. It's not feasable to put it in water because ducks and geese are so messy and it has to be changed several times a day.
