***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Any legs on that girl or does she just roll her way around???

She's got legs under all those feathers. The fullness of her undercarriage makes her a great broody mom. Right now, she's giving me an egg each day. The rest of my hens are intermittent.

Dusti,

Here's your bathing beauty : ) She made a lot of noise as I was filling her bath today. I think she was telling me to hurry.

Here's my star layer, a coronation sussex. She got to free-range with the first group today.
She looks like she is sitting on a bowling ball! And my, look at that bright red comb! She's a healthy-looking bird!

How many Corronations do you have? I just got 7 young ones, They are all around 4 mo. old. I already love their personalities. They sure do eat a lot compared to my Cochins and even more than my EEs.

Hi everyone. Chatching up on posts. So I will post at length later tonight. But I am wanting to know. Do any of you have Speckled Sussex? I would like to have 2 pullets. If any of you have chicks available soon, let me know. If not I will order a batch from Mc Murry's and sell the leftovers at auction. Thanks!

Wednesday is fine. I gave 15 one week old babies to a seriously broody mother and a 1st time broody hen. The two Cochin hens raised all 15 together because they had a big nest box and had already been sharing it.
The chicks appear to be Black, Blue and possibly Splash. I can hold back those that will be light colored. There are at least six that are the darker shades. by Wednesday they will be 5 - 8 days old...should work if she is still sitting on eggs.
I will PM you my phone number and address with a few direction...I'm easy to find....

No I don't have any Gold Laced Wyandotte.
You know NanaKat if you need to find homes for any light colored cochins,, I know someone who would love to give them a home...

Good evening Everybody!!!
Today was the first day for one of my new assistants.. I am so grateful to have her in my classroom.. Things are starting to turn around now that the trouble makers are gone.. Now I am not so stressed about going to work each day!!

Well my first hatch of the year was a success. I put 8 maran eggs in with 1 EE to check for fertility of the maran eggs. I do a light colored egg to check development along the way because the marans are sooo hard to see into. Up until yesterday I really didn't know if the marans were even developed. But 5 hatched out, 2 didn't develop and 1 died in shell at hatch. I actually think the marans got too big for the shell. The last one needed help because it had partially zipped and then couldn't move around. It was all the way up in the top of the egg. Same with the one that died in shell. The whole egg was dark I thought either I just couldn't see in or it was going to explode. Low and behold when I put a small hole in the very top hair puffed out. Poor baby internally pipped but wasn't able to externally pip. I must have had my temp up too much because it is just now ending day 21. But good news...My marans are fertile!

Quote: LOL!!! Love it! We have a little black bantam Cochin and I was flip flopping on calling him Bilbo or Bwalin. I can't decide. We just got him and he started the funniest little pip squeak crow yesterday! Cracks me up! I also figured that I will name my Splash Marans cockerel Fili. Kinda feels odd not having a Kili so I might name a pullet that... My daughter decided to name the baby bunnies that came home with us from the auction. One is Dotty but the other is a very fluffy one so it got the name Bomber. I'm sure eventually I will have all the dwarves names passed around. My kids and I are big on the Hobbit so all those names kinda come natural when we think of what to name something. LOL

Not sure of anyone that has Speckled Sussex around here. I am going to get some Light Sussex from a breeder in Arkansas pretty soon. I will pass the question on to him and maybe he knows someone who breeds them. They are pretty!

Went to the feed store and got the chicks on Corid. It must be pretty potent stuff to add so little to a gallon and it work on this. Anyone know how long I should wait to see any results? Most of the babies I gave 2 tsp of the mixed medicated water to every hour. They are perkier, scratching, and are eating too. Still passing the black bloody tar or red bloody poop. I'm really worried for two of them. They are the most pale and lethargic ones. I have been forcing them the water and a little bit of mashed feed. Needless to say that they still put up a fight and I had that stuff ALL over me! I'm keeping a close watch and feel their crops. When those are empty I just fill them again. Hope that isn't hurting but I figured as bad as they are they need it.
As for my outside flock they are dong so much better. Thorin's face is still a little swollen but treatment isn't done yet. I am having issues with that my RIR being a bitty to the others. If it keeps up I'm just giving her back to the neighbor. Too much drama in the coop.
