Wow there has been a lot of losses lately.

The weather has played a role in it I'm sure. I had hoped that we were done for a bit but it seems we have another cold streak coming.....just in time for my new babies to arrive
he.gif

They hatched today and should be here tomorrow, possibly Wen. Send some positive thoughts my way that they all arrive healthy and active and that we can keep them that way through this cold streak. I had planned to put them in our brooding room, which is connected to our coop, but I am considering keeping them in the house for at least the first week. I am terrified that the power could go out or short and we wouldn't know until morning. Either way I am so excited and will post pics when they arrive!!!

looks like they are saying a drop in temps this weekend- yeah, i'd keep them in the house, what better way to enjoy them- i've got a few birds i may need to bring in too...they've been out on the porch for the week, but aren't climatized

We enjoyed having our last batch in the house for a few hours.....but boy do they sure stink quickly!!!! This is a smaller batch though, only 16 (maybe some extra "peanuts"). I am so excited though, I getting my first cochin and a trio of buff brahmas!!!!

Great news about the Peacock, he's so pretty.

@artsyrobin so sorry about Licorice. I'll never get used to losing them but can't the alternative is not having chickens and that's not a life I'm willing to live.
I talked to June and am buying the most darling pair from her. Not micros/minis but 14 oz and 10 oz-Channing's size. I'm also geting a hen for Channing, he's beside himself I'm sure :-D. I told June he was awaiting a hen on bended wing haha! I'm his Main Hen though so the new little girl will be his Henlet. She's got a few more pairs available on her website if anyone's interested - http://www.silkiedseramas.com Some beautiful birds there. I'm picking them up tomorrow, I'm really excited!

:welcome Okie Style!!!

The Farm Inno. holds humidity so much better than the little giant Styrofoam bators. I wish I knew why. When I tried to lower humidity I cracked open the window a little if it was the first few days. If it was over day 5 I gently sucked the extra water out and eventually it went down. Just watch your humidity because just a little water and it spikes. When the chicks hatch your going to find it goes so high your windows get fogged up. Still the little giant doesn't do that even.

Talking about Dennis?
I am! Such a nice guy! I drove to his farm to pick up my light Sussex eggs and had 9 out of 10 hatch. He gave my daughter and I a little tour of his farm. It was SO cold that I couldn't stay out to see everything. His chickens are so beautiful! He has some really nice breeds. I will be getting a few SFH pullets from him later this week but will be getting the eggs shipped to me now. I really honestly didn't think I would win the auction!

i break one of my herbal capsules, so she gets half- i combine it with an aspirin, polyvisol and vit b in about 1/4 c of water and give it to her periodically through the day, so maybe three droppers at a time- its a slow process, am thinking i am dealing more with a bump to her head than wry- she is starting to eat on her own-

@TRUE5 you have seriously become addicted and chicken math is invading your life!LOL!
LOL!!! Robin, you have NO idea! Today we went to Lowes and picked up a few supplies to start on the new coop. My husband is not exactly happy because the numbers of the chickens including chicks is overwhelming him. I think once I sell off the boys and narrow it down to what I plan to keep it wont be as bad... hehehe... ok, so it will still be a lot for us. I keep telling him I am done with what I have but we both know what breeds I am still after. When I'm finally satisfied I think I will have just a little over 20 chickens.

Robin and everyone who has had a loss, so sorry. It's not easy when they pass. I still have the chicks I hatched for a friend and I was up all night last night trying to get one to come back. It was still peeping and could stand but the little bantam drooped it's head and wouldn't open its eyes. I found it like that and quickly started to give it some water with a little poly-vi-sol. It started to perk up some and I thought it was getting better but then it started to get worse. It finally passed this afternoon. It wasn't even mine but I tried like heck to help it. Poor thing.

Here is "Darling". I decided after telling you all she was darling, it kind of stuck with me and I liked it. So this is her.

LOVE her! She seems to be doing really well with the transition to our home and is in a pen by herself. She gets to stay out during the day until dusk. She is still very croupy and you can hear it in her breathing. I have given her Tylan for 3 days now and it doesn't seem to be helping. Is there anything else I should do that might help? Any other meds I should try? I will be going the full 7 days with Tylan injected. I don't think she is losing weight but don't know because we have only had her since Friday. I could shoot my husband for spending as much as he did for her but I still adore her. In that pic you don't see her bare butt lol. I checked again and I think I might dust her just incase it is from mites and I'm just not seeing them. She's a big girl and weighs a bunch! Such a sweet heart! Boy oh boy, if she doesn't get well though I will be permanently banned from auctions by my husband.

@TRUE5 OMG! She is stunning! Wow! As far as her cold- this is the advice i was given by NanaKat- feeding medicated hog starter pellets with oxytetracycline for two weeks helps with the respiratory sinus stuff, along with either Duragard or Gallimycin-

The incubator should have some plugs you can take out that will let out the humidity. If not open it for a bit, unless you have eggs in it already.

If your DH is freaking out about the chickens just tell him that 20 chickens is small time. I have well over 60 bird on my place.

Darling is so beautiful. I really like her coloring.. Do you have a roo to go with her? If not I could probably hook you up with one. :) I am hopefully going to get some more tomorrow and I will have an extra roo I do not need. Send me a PM if you are interested.
