I've been meaning to post pictures of the Langshans I got from Mikaela, and since one of them sang the eggsong for me today, I'm puffed up enough with pride to do so! One of the Langshans in front of Queenie, a two year old splash Marans. The Langshans are barely out of pullet stage, so they're still growing.

Oh, and want to give you guys a heads up, because I'm a mite peeved. I bought a bunch of "Ameraucana" chicks from the Coweta auction for a friend and every single one turned out to be boys. Now, while there's a sweet and kind part of me that wants to believe that was just bad luck, there's another part of me that thinks it's more likely that they got ventsexed before the auction.

Ohh. Egg pictures. I've got a photo. I got two Wheaten Maran hens a few weeks ago from Tausha. They are still in quarantine cages, and were experiencing some anxiety about the move, so they didn't start to lay until a few days ago. Both hens gave me an egg today! I'm hoping my roo will help with his genetic contribution to give the next generation a boost in egg color. Shelbydog - birthday babies? Dark egg layers? Hmmm?

I only have one. These are the chicks I bought as a prezzie for Cathie Sue, so she's saddled with the rest. He's going to be gorgeous. I was going to put him back with Zima when I noticed the feathers around his tail had little streaks of gold in them, which led to noticing the pointed tips of those feathers, which then led to noticing the green sheen on the black feathers in said tail. Sigh.
