***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@Ksane
all of my boys have learned their manners- even Cole. Kind of surprised- Jojo has a duccle and a serama, so i guess they made it clear

@artsyrobin I've got OEGB girls I could give them who'd put them in their place but that'd be even *more birds inside for the sake of *their hormones, hardly seems fair to the hens when the boys are such darling little pets housed alone.

On the pair of Serama's I got, the boy is being a perfect gentleman to the tiny little hen.  Only once have i seen him try to breed her and she didn't want him to so he stopped.  He calls to her when they get feed or a treat.  So they must have been mated together at June's or he is just a special young man.  The other two boys are just a crowing and adjusting ,one doesn't raise a stink when I hold him, where as one doesn't like it much, in fact I opened the cage door and he flew out and had to chase him in the house...lol.  Got him and just held him and loved on him, so he may take a little more time to be social.  But just love the little birdies.

Almost forgot, the baby Serama's with pasty butt, got them all cleaned up again last  night and put vaseline on their butt so poop will not stick, they seem to be doing better so hopefully if will clear up.  Thanks everyone for all the great advise.  That is what I like about this thread is that everyone is here to answer questions and help each other through the good and the bad and the happy and the sad...

@greenbeetle
The plain looking solid Black male I got that day has turned out to be a sweetheart. He looks just like the auction Serama I tried caponizing that died, except this one doesn't bite me every time I reach in. I've got 2 little Serama hens together who are wonderful together (1 is the girl growing her feathers back). They're always laying together or perched together and seem quite happy to find their own food bowl in exchange for not having to endure the amorous intentions of boys :gig

I found my Olive the other night but unfortunately she died during the night. I'm kicking myself for how much I paid for these olive eggers and they all died and one ended up being a male. I got 9 juvie pullets from this guy, 2 ended up being male and now I have 2 living pullets. Good grief. They either are not hardy stock or I suck at chicken raising.

Moving on.....I want to make "I love the bearded ladies" tshirts. Idea is to have silhouette of a bearded hen on one and another design is a yes or no chart on the ameracauna, aracauna, EE debate with humor. Would anyone want a tshirt?

Oh Dusti, I'm so sorry. I know Olive was special. You know I'm not a big hugger but I would be all about hugging right now. And yes, I'd do a tshirt... if the checkmarks were all in the EE column. :p

it will be a yes/no chart on how to identify. and my car wouldn't start this morning so now I'm going to be late to work. And all this week the 2 alarms I have set for 3 am have not been going off. I drowned my iphone 2 weeks ago. I've lost a lot of chickens this year. 2014 is not starting out good for me.

Kyz, the only one I'm sure is a girl is the one the dog got ahold of. The 1st and 3rd are def. Boys, I'd have guessed boy on the 4th also but I see everyone else thought girl.
Teenaged roosters need knocked on the head by the hens. Out of my *6 Serama boys only 2 get to have a hen-and one of those is blind! The other one is my 3 yr old, Channing. Young boys are rude little creatures lol

I couldn't post at work, but left my guess in the ovation spot, but that is what I thought too.

I'll take a shirt. Have you decided on background colors? I favor peach, light blue, turquoise blue, or minty green. I wear T-shirts in the summer, and the colors listed make one's farmer tan look a lot darker ; }

I have a Wheaten Maran rooster covering 4 Wheaten hens, 2 standard Cornish hens, and 2 black Ameraucanas hens. Let me know if you want me to collect the blue eggs so you can hatch some olive eggers : ]
