***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Newbie here. Not just new to the site, but new to raising fowl, AND new to Oklahoma. Another friend refers to me as an "Oklahoma Improved Californian".

Anyway, we are in Sequoyah County, in the country, near the Tenkiller Golf course. We just got our first ever chickens, this week (16 chicks of various breeds). Lost an Australorp chick this morning, but the other 15 are doing well, as are the two bronze broadbreasted turkeys, we got.
I need to build a bigger brooder, for these little folks, in the next few days, and I am getting started on rebuilding a collapsed coop (tree fell on it). But, for now, our one big coop should be good for our flock, for the time being.

Several BYC Okies are improved Californians. We still have family in San Diego, Poway, Temecula, and Lemon Grove. We miss the beautiful weather, but we're glad to be away from the high cost of living and the oneupmanship that pervades a fast culture. There are many knowledgable people on this thread. Don't hesitate to ask if you need information. And mark your calendar for June 14th. We (Okie Chicken Fans) are having a big gathering in Tahlequah to swap, sell, trade poultry, bunnies, hatching eggs, etc. There will be a pot luck lunch, and we'll also have games for the kids. There's a link to the planning thread in my signature line. Hope you can join us. It's a great way to meet friendly chicken enthusiasts.

we have a sticky baby serama...LOL!

OH WOW. i DIDN'T KNOW U WERE EXPECTING ANY. Don't u just love those precious little babies. Glenn went to our Orschlens yesterday to pick up more chicken supplies and said all the cuckoo marans e\were gone. Do they still have any SS left. I should call. My appt. is Tuesday I guess I shouldn't be buying more chicks, I need pens. Glenn's friend is selling most of his stock and a lot of pens. He has a lot of them, but we can only afford 2 right now. They are 4' tall and 3' x 6'. just perfect for broodies. pairs or babies. They have roofs and are made form the tiny hardware wire. I can't pass up a couple. HE HAS BIGGER ONES. BUT THEY WOULD E MORE MONEY. I don't know why the caps keep sticking on this. I said I was going to get a different keyboard and never have. Congratulations on your new baby.

Welcome to BYC Okie style. Sorry about the tree falling on your coop. I always worry about the same thing. I moved here from Colorado and it took me a while to get used to it, but now I love it here , There are a lot of chicken addicts and enablers on this thread, th whole site actually. They'll have u up and going in no time LOL

I have 3 of the 7 rows completed for my newest fusion quilt

Both sides are from byc swaps, the blue and yellow fabric stars and the center flower crocheted squares. The flower side has two special squares, an awareness ribbon in my MIL ca colors, and a broken heart in the alzhiemers colors for my gma.
Beautiful, as always. I must of been typing when uposted or I would have done a multi. I never have thanked u yet, about the turken rooster. Thanks for deciding for me what is best.

I've finished grading papers for the weekend. This has been a good year. I'm seeing excellent work, much more progress than I expected. Our last artist studied was M.C. Escher. Here are some of the drawings from that lesson.

Sigh.....the lady I bought fav chicks from is selling about 13 of them for $5 each. I'm not in mood to drive 6 hrs today to snatched them all up and she can't hold them for me for 2 weeks. So this is what chick purchase withdrawal feels like.

Where is she located, maybe a chick train could be arranged
