***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm new here but I'm glad I missed all the apparent b.s., lol. I am new to chickens, just starting out w 2 RIR hens & a small tractor coop for the moment. I live in Tushka, just North of Durant & south of McAlester.

Hi Captain welcome to the group. I've been here for over a year. Not sure which BS you are referring to. I have not read the older okie threads.

Be sure to check out the Poops event thread!

Oh hey! I know Dusti is already volunteering, but this sounds like fun! I've been wanting to learn beekeeping. Not because I want to really keep bees, but I've been thinking of putting a nuc on my property just because I don't see enough of them around and I have fruit trees.

Take Thursday off!

X2! :)

It's very easy, scrape out all the crap mess left by waxmoths that took over the hives we lost over the winter, and pop a new piece of wax or wax coated plastic in. Wear grungies, because propolis (the gluey adhesive bees use, made from sap usually) stains! I've got plenty of scrapers, screwdrivers, etc. I'd love to have the help- woohoo mini bee class and work day at my house Thursday (Coweta)! ;) Any other takers?

@Kyzmette bees are really amazing. And actually until last week I'd never been stung by one of our own bees and we've had bees for 4 years now. Last week Lonny dropped a hive during transport and I got stung on the lip. Ouch! But if you aren't available Thursday come down sometime on a weekend. Better yet if you want to help on a honey harvest Saturday sometime in June you are welcome, and I always send honey home with helpers for thank yous.

My cows and chickens are loving the chill in the air...there have been cavorting calves and clucking chickens all over the place!
My okra is up!
Couldn't find sweet potato slips anywhere so I ordered from Park Seed. I have a few I started so those can go out first.

So sorry to hear about all the losses.

Howdy Captain Jack, and Welcome to the forum. Like those RIR's. I'm raising some RIR Bantams this year.

It is a little nippy out there today. As I was glassing over the cows and calves in the far pasture this morning I saw a large black cow in the herd. Looks like the one that came over the fence to calve 3 years ago. Boy; was she ever wild. Tore up my corral as we tried to load her. She got away, but my neighbor took the calf home, and a few days later, she showed up outside her calf's pen.
