So tonight i put all the feeders inside and locked up the coops. So hopefully they go somewhere else. I might have to get a trap, I am sure if there where 2 (and they where big ones) probably a pair, which means lots of little coons.

Yep.

A good trap and a round of hot lead for each should work.

I'm pleased those 2 serama eggs are growing, since i sent some out on a test shipment that didn't hatch or develop at all. Glad i sent them to a friend!

seems awfully quiet after downsizing- @shelbydog how are the new birds doing??

I have serveal chicks in a 6 x 4 brooder.  I noticed a couple of the bantam chicks having labored breathing and one was sneezing, I immediately removed them and put them in a seperat cage away from others.  What can you give 1-2 week old chicks to help them if it is respiratory.  Also should I treat the entire brood of chicks they where in with (the others are not showing signs of stress or respiratory problems)  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sulmet (Sulfamethazine if you can find it generic) says it treats:

Infectious Coryza (Haemophilus gallinarum)

Coccidiosis (Eimeria tenella, Eimeria necatrix)

Acute Fowl Cholera (Pasteurella multocida)

Pullorum Disease (Salmonella pullorum)

So it treats a lot more than coccidia like some people think. Sulmet & Amoxicillon or Erythromycin (Gallimycin) is usually my 1st course of action with chicks. I dissolve about 50 mg worth of Amoxi in a tiny bit of water and give it to them in a syringe twice a day. I do the same with Erythromycin.I don't waste time anymore mixing it in drinking water, I mix about 1/8 tsp in a tiny bit of water and give it to them down their throat with a syringe. I think it's too weak when you mix it in a gal of water.

You know how i love Blue chicks??? And how I love Ameraucanas?? Well my daughter and I took the eggs away from the hen in the Ameraucana pen because she scalped the 1st chick (he's still alive but I don't know how he'll do). I stuck them in my styrofoam incubator and *10 BLUE Bantam Ameraucana* babies hatched!!!!! 1 is Blue and Yellow so it may end up a Splash. I'm so happy!! I'll post a picture of the daddy, I hatched him 2 yrs ago and he's the sweetest gentlest & calmest rooster I have outside, I love him so much. Here's the daddy, Blizzie:

Congrats on the little Blues! Looking forward to pictures of Blizzie's babies.

Pictures for today:
The two Birchen pens...Black Birchen over Black and Blue hens and Blue Birchen over Black Birchen hens

A young Blue Rosecomb Bantam pair out of birds I got from CJarvis

The Columbian Wyandotte hens are being covered by Beau's son.

This little Spangled Old English Game has decided to start laying again.

I reworked and extended the floor in the arbor in the garden. The wisteria is finally growing over the top for shade. I planted bird house gourds on the south side in the small garden box along with Hyacinth bean, Moon Flower and Cypress vine.

Three colors of poppies in the garden....I really like the carnation flowered better than the singles....but you get what comes up each year from seed.

Never known a LF Cochin to go after humans....mine are all big teddy bears.  The two Bantam Cochin cockerels I have scurry out of the way when I walk in their pen.  I think they are afraid that "that big person will step on us" if we don't move.
Never had Silkies but I thought they all were big fluff balls with forked combs and poofy tails......If the other hens have accepted Momma and babies, I'd put the Silkie in the cage in the garage and let the hen and babies stay with the flock.

I have a brooder room where I put hens with chicks down on the floor together.  There is one rooster in with them and a few juveniles.  The hens pick a space for their family and the others take the rest of the space.  The rooster calls all to treats and is a good "Daddy" ...Beau is recovering from pendulous crop and loves the environment.  Once the babies know which Momma is theirs and follow her, I will open the door from the brooder room into the hen house and let the Mommas begin to take their chicks to the hen house and outside when they choose.  If I see a problem, that hen and her chicks go into a floor pen for a while longer.
Lots of feeding and water stations with some protected by smaller openings for chicks to escape are always helpful.

I had a silkie pair and the roo was super aggressive to other birds including hens. The hen was just plain psychotic. I got her because I wanted a broody. Turns out that she was so crazy you couldn't get near her when she was setting. She would peck, bite, scratch, and squawk like crazy. She ended up breaking some of the eggs she was brooding and only hatched one chick. The chick actually died because she wouldn't let it out from under her for even a second. I thought she was letting it eat and drink when we weren't around, but I think she either starved it or suffocated the poor thing! I have some silkie eggs in the bator now and I hope if they hatch I have better luck this time ;)

For those of you who haven't gone to the Tulsa Zoo to see the dino's you really should they are way cool. Children (even grown ones) and Gchildren will love it. Here are a few pics I took there yesterday.

They all move and make noise, even some of the babies. The eyes also move.
