***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok I give up on transplanting trees right now. Even though we got a little rain today the ground was so hard I couldn't dig very deep at all.

I tried a couple of weeks ago in the rain, w/ about 4 cloudy / rainy days following and they still died. I was really wanting the transplants to work since the mimosa tree is on it's last legs. I think I am going to tie strings around the saplings (so this fall I know which ones to move when they are just sticks) and try this fall.

My big mimosa tree died so I was hoping to move some of the babies. Fortunately I have a couple medium size mimosa trees on the property just not where I want them lol

Anyone have squash bugs or eggs on their squash yet??? I'm trying to figure out if I should celebrate, or if it's just to early to tell.

I don't have a garden this year but given the last few years I would say it's too early to tell.

Feeling slightly sick tonight. My 2 year old slipped into the incubator/egg room last week and cranked the Sportsman all the way up. I have no idea how long but it was at 105 when I realized it last Thursday (a week ago). I candled tonight and pulled out probably 85% of my eggs. I probably tossed 150 eggs. Interesting though that a few breeds had very low losses compared to the others: Ameraucanas, EEs, sexlinks (BCM X CL), and Exchequer Leghorn. I guess they are just very hardy breeds! We'll see how many hatch.

I've got about a dozen chicken eggs in lockdown as of today. I hope the wheaten marans hatch. They were amazing wigglers when I was able to see through their dark shells. I have a few duck eggs that will be hatching a week later. They are an active bunch. I look forward to the noise of a busy brooder box.

Shelbydog - The fawn and white runners are growing fast. They get to move outside this weekend. I have a wire-covered box that I plan to put their water on. It's an attempt to reduce mud puddles.

Looking forward to some rain tonight and tomorrow. The grass is already knee-high to a T-Rex, so any free time I have after we dry out again will be invested in mowing.

I read a few days ago someone on here had birchen Cochins. I have a questions. Can I breed a blue cochin to a black birchen cochin? What about a blue cochin to a red cochin? I have teenager Cochins and only want to keep a trio. My blue roo and two girls for him. My choices of girls are black birchen, red, and buff. The birchen and red are already best buddies with the roo so that's why I picked them
