***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I feel like you could even make my "special" silkie, Queen Moonracer, look stunning! Seriously, you are an amazing chicken photographer! My chickens are jealous they get off centered, blurry shots with red eyes, while yours look like movies stars!

It usually takes a lot of shots to get that one good one. :)

I did a DHS intervention on my broodies. I've got about 3 chicks missing. My one suspicion is they got over the back wall of the nest box and have fallen down into the coop wall. Or killed by another hen taking over the nest.

I found a chick last night in the yard. It's in the brooder box with 2 other chicks I took away from their 'lousy' mothers. Granted they are first time moms but tired of pulling out dead chicks. I removed all eggs from the nest boxes. I left the ones sitting on the floor. I'm debating removing the 2-3 chicks that are with the hens sitting on the floor but one is actually being a good mother.

My goose is being a good mom. My muscovy with the 10 ducklings is a superb mom but my muscovy with the 2 ducklings is not attentive to her babies. Frequently leaves them behind. But drakes are well behaved so far. Have 2 other scovies and a call duck still setting.

DHS Intervention is funny. I'm sorry your chicken mamas are not doing there jobs.

Does anyone know about transplanting trees and bushes?? I have several small mimosa trees I would like to move, a few baby oak trees, a small eleagnus bush and a crape myrtle baby. These are all babies from older trees Anyone know how I can move them?

Mimosas are notoriously difficult to transplant, I'd say 50% success rate. Do it when it's cool like in the morning, put it in a bucket in the shade if you can't plant right away, disturb the roots as little as possible, keep well watered for a few weeks. Same tips for the other trees. Prep the soil well with equal parts compost, peat moss, and vermiculite and make the hole twice as large as the root ball.

I had some growing at a house I was living in about 10 years ago, they were starts from a neighbor's tree. My mom really wanted one, so I dug one up and she planted it. It died. So I dug up 3-4 of them for her. I was trying to include the dirt around the roots but it broke apart as I was lifting them out, so basically they were bareroot plants. She left them sitting on her porch in the shade for 2-3 weeks because life got busy, she did keep them in damp loose soil. When she finally got around to planting them only one made it but after sitting that long I was surprised any of them made it. It is a beautiful low-limbed tree now!

They will do better if you wait to try to move them in the fall. Gives the roots a chance to grow out before having to deal with the summer heat.

I have to get rid of my G.Prynese / G. Retriever girl. A roo go out today and she chased it down, did not kill him but just had it pinned to the ground. I got it away from here before any damage was done. I am not going to take any chances with her getting the taste of chickens so that is why I am getting rid of her. My neighbor across the street has recently acquired poultry and she does go over there sometimes because she knows him but so far has not shown any interest in his birds. My birds are penned up behind a hot wire so I have not had any problems with her and my flock until this morning.

I rescued her from the Norman animal shelter back in January. She is about 2 yrs old and still very playful. She does a great job on guarding this place. She loves being outside except when it rains.

If anybody is interested in her please text me at 405-206-4541.

Her name is Ms. K.

Do you think maybe she was keeping it from "getting away"? After all, they are a herd dog and part of their original job was to keep the sheep herds together.

Her names Goe and she talks NONSTOP!!!

I have more pictures if that would help. :)

I say blue Swedish. Some have a lot of yellow on their feet, some almost none at all. so yes, it could very well be one.

Ok I give up on transplanting trees right now. Even though we got a little rain today the ground was so hard I couldn't dig very deep at all. :(

Good news 9 of the 12 quail eggs I had incubating hatched. 2 more have pips but I'm not sure if the chick is still alive. I'm excited to see how these chicks grow the eggs came from a pen with Tuxedo, courturnix, and Tennessee Red quail in it.

My d'uccle chicks are growing I am debating on brining some to P.O.O.P.S. I haven't heard from anyone if they want any so if you think you do or someone might Let me know so I don't take them to the auction first. Talking about auction I think that is where my rooster is going. I just feel bad burdening someone else with him. I was by the coop and bent over to pick something up off the ground when he ran full force into the wire aiming for my head. I have no doubt he would have hurt me if I wouldn't have been outside the coop

Bantam Cochins and OEGBs bring to POOPS or auction?
