***OKIES in the BYC III ***

POOPS is nearly upon us. Even if you can't come for the whole day, come visit and participate in the prize drawing. See me at the gate for tickets. The drawing will be at 1:00 p.m.

I finally took some pictures of the chicken diapers I made. They have adjustable straps and a waterproof inside pocket. If you put a piece of paper towel into the waterproof pocket, you can change your chicken diapers faster than you can change Pampers.

To me it looks like the skin stretched out due to swelling, and now it's loose. Blisters form wherever skin has pulled away from the tissue beneath. Due to fluid between the layers of tissue beneath and the skin on top, the skin could take on a pale greenish hue. I had a terrible sunburn one time due to a faulty can of sunscreen, 2nd degree on 40% of my body. The blisters looked a lot like that. You could also have some dead tissue which is sloughing off into the blisters. Best guess, some tissue damage, even possibly some deep tissue damage, which will take some extended time to heal. It resembles frostbite a lot, so there was potentially some loss of circulation and necrosis. The epsom baths are one of the best things you could do for it, if that's the case. He's still walking on it, though, which is the best sign of all. Also, I doubt the wrapping caused any loss of circulation. If the bone was actually broken, it would have been due to swelling and displacement of tissue, possibly tearing of tissue from bone fragments, and the stabilization of the bone would keep further damage from being done.

one of my LF Cochin broodies, hatched a baby today, I didn't think they where do to hatch until Monday so guess I was way off... She hatched a SLW chick...yay...must have hatched last night or something because it is all dry and fuzzy, and Mom seems to be doing good with it, she isn't picking on it or anything so fingers crossed she will be a good mom.

The babies are so freaking cute! Too bad the full sized scare the crap out of me.... :hmm
I used to feel the same but now I really like them. Plus theyre heat tolerant and thats a huge selling point in Oklahoma. I worry about these cochins! Until I went to bardies I had never seen a NN in person and I always thought they were bantam. WOW I was wrong! Which only makes me like them more.

and @bardies you are not a bad chicken mom. Your set ups wonderful, your birds are healthy, and you care. I hope you get his foot problem figured out. I think its super sweet you're talking him with you.

@Poco Pollo those diapers are awesome. Im just afraid my husband would leave me if I had a house chicken.

@Kassaundra I love q-tip. She is beautiful. And whoever is taking that rockstar cockerel better send picture updates!

He's too incredible! Im curious to know what his name will be?

Am I the only one who, when helping chicks hatch, have desperately wanted to tell the momma hend, "Congratulations, it's a girl!"
Has anyone else been that way.. ?
Or just me.. ?
