***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So, whoever put up that link to the Cutler website. I don't know whether to strangle you or praise you. I'm getting a catalog and will probably be like a kid with the Toys R Us holiday catalog.

Hey wanted to tell you I'm super excited about a SFH chick I have growing out, it's about 5 weeks old and I think it's female- so far it's blue with cream markings on it's head and tail, and it looks to have a crest! My dogs got the beauty I got from you at poops, and the two littler girls from the other breeder.

Apparently the goats taught the dogs that they could climb ONTO the quarantine coop and over into the fenced area. Dumbos... it's fixed now they can't get in that way again!

Hi everyone!! I'm still new to this page and semi new to raising chickens. I've had problems getting answers on other forums on here but I'm hoping my fellow okies are more welcoming!

I'm in the Tulsa area and I own 16 chicks! 3 Australorp pullets 1 silver laced Cochin pullet 1 smooth blue Cochin roo and 1 barred frizzled Cochin all about 5 months old. The blue is crowing and has been for about a month even though he is still horrible! Lol!! I also have 5 EEs, 2 barred rocks, and 3 gold laced wyandottes all about 2 months old.. got them at Atwoods and learned my lesson.. looks like I've got 7 roos and 3 pullets out of that bunch so I have roos looking for a new home!! What doesn't go will make a delicious pot of chicken and dumplings!! Mmmm...

I didn't know wether to punish my dog or love on him today. After rounding up all the free ranging chickens and shutting the coop I noticed my half blind mille hen was missing. Just then my phone rang and as I was answering it my dog ran up to me with the missing chicken in his mouth. He promptly dropped her at my feet like TaDa I found her for you. I looked her over and only saw a small scratch at the top of her head. I am keeping a close eye on her to make sure she is ok. That scared me but my dog was so proud if himself.

they don't know any better. They don't realize they can hurt them.

The funny thing is we have 5 acres. Who knows where that chicken was but my dog brought her right to me feet. He wasn't interested in eating her. After I put her back in the coop she walked around eating the goodies I put out.

Love it! Looks really pretty. Are they all capons?

Nope, none are capons. I sure wouldn't have to worry about them getting along if they were though.
And contrary to popular opinion I do not "collect" roosters lol Nobody wants them and I can't bear to eat them if I've raised them or they've been here awhile :p And I kinda' feel sorry for them lol

It's been awhile since I've been on here. First, let me say I love reading this forum. It IS Oklahoma...people happy for each other, sad for each other, helping each other out. It will take me forever to put names with personalities, but I'm trying...just much better at remembering people's faces!

My two male CLs I got from Rinda are growing nicely as is the Barnevelder pair, and my little lone Isbar. I so hope it's a she. It's at 10 weeks now. It feathered out slowly, but doesn't have much of a comb. I've been out of town for a few days, so I'm hoping it'll be obvious by the time I get back.

My Jubilees are getting big! I lucked out. The two I hatched (from North Carolina) are boys. Out of the 11 I purchased from Michigan (JB's Poultry), 8 are girls. I plan to keep one of those roosters, but I'll have a couple to sell (or TRADE) once I decide which one I'm keeping.

I have yet to send a roo to freezer camp. One, predators keep taking them, but two, I kinda like them. Three, cleaning seems, well, hard. But I hear the taste is amazing. I grew up on it at my grandma's, and remember all the steps to get it to the table, but I don't remember the taste. Lol.

Rain tomorrow they say.

Went by the plant lady's place. Scored some sturdy Sedum, a bunch of flowering ground cover, ice plant I think. Another batch of iris and a couple of climbing vines. Bean something.
And an aloe vera for the house.
:/  g'nite

Probably Hyacinth Bean. I love mine

Welcome and sounds like you have a nice flock growing.

Good to hear from you.
Yes, it takes time to get all those feathers out...but the flavor is so worth the effort. I'm making baked chicken for lunch today for the boys...they are spraying pastures.
