***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi everyone!! I'm still new to this page and semi new to raising chickens. I've had problems getting answers on other forums on here but I'm hoping my fellow okies are more welcoming!

I'm in the Tulsa area and I own 16 chicks! 3 Australorp pullets 1 silver laced Cochin pullet 1 smooth blue Cochin roo and 1 barred frizzled Cochin all about 5 months old. The blue is crowing and has been for about a month even though he is still horrible! Lol!! I also have 5 EEs, 2 barred rocks, and 3 gold laced wyandottes all about 2 months old.. got them at Atwoods and learned my lesson.. looks like I've got 7 roos and 3 pullets out of that bunch so I have roos looking for a new home!! What doesn't go will make a delicious pot of chicken and dumplings!! Mmmm...

Nope, none are capons. I sure wouldn't have to worry about them getting along if they were though.
And contrary to popular opinion I do not "collect" roosters lol Nobody wants them and I can't bear to eat them if I've raised them or they've been here awhile :p And I kinda' feel sorry for them lol

I know how that goes. I can handle eating mine but my son has begged me to rehome the 4 we raised. I told him they probably won't meet a better fate anywhere else but he said he just can't bear it happening here. So Craigslist they go!

Thanks for the welcome!!! I'm very proud of my flock but I'm far from done lol. I'm in the market for some marans, blued laced red wyandottes, brahmas, speckled Sussex's, and some more EEs. My want my flock as colorful as my egg basket. I'm also looking for turkeys and a big flock of guineas to roam our 38 heavily wooded acres. The bugs are out of control!! I plan on making a hatchery order if I can't find any eggs and/or chicks local. I always prefer local! :)

Here's my blue Cochin boy. He started out solid blue but now he has gold/yellow streaks coming out in him. He may be the one roo that gets to stay. I'm excited to see him as an adult. :)

Welcome to the Okie thread! You'll see more activity on the weekend. I wasn't able to get online yesterday, so I missed saying hello when you first posted.

Sounds like you have a colorful flock. I hope they grow out well for you and give you all the eggs you want. My sister advised me to keep two hens per family member, just to be sure we would have enough eggs, per person, each day.

For your roos, you can use Craig's List and will probably have new homes (or new chicken and dumplings fanciers) quickly.

Hey everyone,
I'm quitting my job today for another opportunity, but sending good vibes my way would help. (I've never had to quit a job, and I've only been here 7 months. this is hard)

BUT, on a different note Gwyn (changed from Gwen) is crowing. Wouldn't shut up this morning. It's not super loud, but it's so funny! Crowed about 6 times then shut up (I think, I actually left the house). So cute, but might be getting a crow collar.
