***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@Kassaundra why a sock? We use a bucket, but I dont think it will work well in the winter because its not warm enough, so am looking for other ideas.

First eggs!!! What fun! You must be a proud chicken mama.

Im going to be going towards the Tulsa area from Norman next weekend, anyone need to get anything up there? @Kyzmette still want those elderberry plants? Maybe we can figure out how to get them to you.

Thanks Ashtree, yes I am a proud chicken mama!! So far I've collected 5 eggs. One girl is laying every other day, but the other has laid one each day. Curious when the others will start. Oh and the last two eggs, from yesterday, are bigger then the others. Interesting to watch the progression :)

The last few weeks' labor- rebuilding the playset we bought on Craiglist last fall and a start on redoing the playhouse I got on a chicken FB page. I was going to turn it into a coop but we found a better coop so it gets to stay a playhouse! My girls especially are thrilled.

Your kids are going to love all that play equipment!
Thank you so much for the honey! It is super delicious!! It was nice meeting you and your husband.

Your pics remind me of a okie poster I never see on here anymore, for the life of me can't remember his user name, but he lived out of state and was planning on moving to OK to the Poteau area I believe. He had lots of fancy pigeons and guinea pigs, and an avid gardener.
Okla-Doodle-doo. If my memory serves me correctly...I sent him a PM and haven't heard back yet.
Don't forget you also want a donkey to freerange with the chickens as a predator deterrent. And since you'll already have one donkey, you might as well get a couple of mini donkeys as company for the first. (prod, prod, enable, enable) :p
LOL! I've heard though that part of why donkeys are so good at deterring predators like coyotes is that they are particularly unfond of canine species, so they don't do well with livestock dogs either? Curious to know because once we fix all our fencing I wouldn't mind running a donkey with everyone else to keep the coyotes away. But we have two Australian shepherds that live with the goats so that may not work for us.
We had donkey guards...not very effective...the Jack actually took down a cow by her neck! He would play with the bull...kick and chase at him and the bull would butt him in the rear. And they weren't any trouble for the dogs...tolerated them nicely. So we sold Jack, Jenny, Joey, and Jack Jr.

Can any of y'all help me identify the kind of duck I have, here? When we bought our guineas, the fellow just gave us the duck for free, because my wife fawned all over it. Since it is the only duck we have, so far, I guess in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter, but could help satisfy a curiosity, for me.
I know next to nothing about chickens, turkeys and guineas. I know even less about ducks.
But, the guineas and turkeys, all follow the duck around, like he's the leader of the flock. Yet, he's the youngest, by one day, of them all. They were all born within 48 hours of one another.

So, BIL is in ICU since yesterday. Understandably, SIL had no time to work up her sand plums so I did them for her this morning. The juice turned out beautifully six quarts of juice just out of the water bath. She will be able to make a lot of jamelly when she is ready.

Now Im sorting my plums into color groups...red, orange and still a little green.

The boys are baling hay today. They came in for a lunch break and Roger had to stop the tractor in the driveway because Mandy decided to lead her chicks across it to the front yard. He waited until the last little tiny Delaware bantam baby darted across.
I need one of the "Chick Crossing" signs.
