***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am still trying to get a new home for 4 of my hens. Trying to find someone to take two of each breed because they are pretty attached to each other. I have had offers but it's a "hold it for me please" then when it comes to the day they change their mind usually due to finances. So, I'm still putting this outogether there...
2 Lavender Orpingtons 2 Dorkings. All girls, all laying. Orpingtons are a hoot! They are so use to people they will steal your food from your hand! $30 for 2. For BYCers $50 for all 4. I need to get my non SFH hens a new home. Otherwise I would keep them. I won't take them to auction because I want to make sure they get a good home.

If you're in eastern OK, ILL TAKE THEM.

Found out some good stuff about Beauty (now Scotch) and Flower. They aren't as flighty as I originally believed. They HATE being held. Try to get them out or in their quarantine cage? Flapping monsters. Make any move to restrain their legs, flapping monsters. Gently push them off the roost on to your arm? Gentle birds that act like well socialized chickens! They'll walk up and down your arm, let you pet them, and generally just act happy (though I did get pooped on by the big one. *eye roll*).

As soon as the new neighbor's kids go inside they will get their first outside time since I got them. (I've finally fashioned a small place where the other chickens can't get to the same ground)

On another note, I got eggs at the farmer's market today! There are brown ones and light tan ones and white ones and I don't know why, but I was so excited to eat a brown one because I've never had a brown egg before. I swear the shells were twice as thick as store bought eggs. I kept not cracking it on the pan. I can't wait until my girls start laying. (which reminds me, I need to get my butt in gear and setup the nest area. Scotch and Flower are a lot closer to lay than the other two)

Dang, I'm just starting to feel human after this bout with pneumonia. Who knew it took so long to get over this? Yikes.
We're deciding on a Bun Yard for the rabbits, I keep changing my mind how I want to do it. I lost my smallest Dark Brahma boy a few wks ago along with one of my Barred Rock capons-the littlest one who always waded in the water, I'll miss him. Here's the other 2 Dark brahma boys @shelbydog. I let them loose into the fenced back yard with their dog house today to join the other 4 roosters back there, they did great with everyone. They're still under 6 months old, but you can tell they're going to be really pretty. Their buddy the Fav capon is hiding behind them.
@Ashtree Arlo's 3 ducks got their 10x10 kennel. Those girls have been moved several times. My 3 ducks are just too mean to them and the 3 girls are just too mean to Silkies to go in with them-it's ok, it's a duck thing. So I'm just leaving them in the 10x10 kennel. It's safe and it's roofed. I can't for the life of me keep their ground dry, they're going to LOVE your pond at your new place.
Also, if anyone knows someone who sells Netherland Dwarf rabbits, please let me know.

That's very typical of all birds :) Prey animals (chickens, rabbits, Pigeons) tend to freak out when they're picked up or held tight. The slower you go the more they climb all over you and relax. (I bet pet squirrels are the same way, I never had a squirrel but always wondered about that). Puppies do better when held firmly, that's how I tend to hold all animas so I have to really remind myself to do the opposite with other kinds of animals. I kinda like that about birds, you have to accept them on *their terms or no terms, period. A lot different than how you handle dogs.

I'm glad you're starting to feel better. I feel so bad that those girls are such a hassle. I will let you know as soon as I can take them, which will be later this month. Thank you so much for taking care of them. Sounds like alot of duck drama. I'll show Arlo the pictures tonight :) he's gonna love hearing about the drama. He thinks pecking orders are hilarious, as long as no one gets seriously hurt-he has no tolerance for that. Thank you again for everything. Arlos been working on another present for you. :)

At 1:30 today I went to Newcastle to drop off birds for the sale and there was a sign on the door that said, "No sale today. Next sale ???".
Anybody know what's up?

Where are you at?? I'd fight for the Dorkings lol

I'd join the fight, but when I lost Lord Dingwald it just took the Dorking heart out of me. I'd buy the Orps, but I've been thinking about how I have too many chickens.

Hey, @Sharkman Dan, do you want some EE chicks? Or anybody else? I have Legbar mixes that are stinking adorable, have never been introduced to the flock, and should lay blue to olive eggs.
