***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks! I like it a lot. The eventual plan was to put roosts in, but now were thinking about using it for broody hens/isolation area. I dont know, it will probably go in the larger run until it is undoubtably predator proof. Its very much a city coop and the chicken wire needs to be hardware cloth, plus a better lock system on the door!
I have been trying to think of something to go inside my bantam run it use to be a gazebo type thing and there is no good shelter from rain or cold right now something like that would work awesome for what i need.

Ready for the summer to be over. Neighbors are making our life a living hell. I'm constantly worried for our animals which takes all the joy out of having them. Its so frustrating to not be able to move.

Are these the druggies you've talked about in the past?

Yep, same ones. They harrass our animals all the time, park their lawn mower against the fence and leave it running, throw things at them, one day the lady sat in a lawn chair and ran her weed eater for three and a half hours. They've put a fence in the middle of our shared drive that leaves us inches from scraping our car every time we pull in or out of the driveway. Then they told us they were watching us and knew when we left the house, who was driving, who was watering the garden, when we did the dishes, etc. We've come home twice this summer and they were on our property messing with our fencing.

I called the police last week on them and haven't heard a peep since. I'm not sure if they spoke to them or not but someone threw a brick at our goat fence last night when we were putting them up for the night. These people are just nutso. Even if the police get involved, its never long before they are right back at it again.

One night they even shot at us with their pellet gun. The bullets dinged off the fence right behind us. I'm still scared to walk down the alley. We definitely called the police that night.

Honestly, we want to move to some acreage. We know no where is ever perfect but at least we wouldn't have neighbors so close harrassing our animals. I just can't stand that about them. How can anyone be so cruel as to hate animals?

Do you own or rent? That could make a difference in what avenues are available to you.
Also, do they own or rent the property next to you? If they rent, the property owner should be notified about what these people are doing.
The shared driveway should have some restrictions based on the easements filed with the county court house.
It sounds like they are trying their best to force you to vacate.
Make sure you have your property insurance paid up and that your small buildings and livestock are somehow included.
Keep copies of all police reports too.

:fl. That they turn up. Momma hens tend to take their chicks to cover quickly when there is a problem. She could be under a building or in a very small secure place with her chick.

Guess who came traipsing out of the neighbors pasture about 7:30 tonight? ?? Happy dance!! Baby is missing though. I stood at the fenceline and listened for a minute but didn't hear any cheeping for momma. :( it was about 7 weeks old so nearly weaned. So sorry cathiesue!

X2 check on the easements with the courthouse. A friend was sued by their neughbor for using an easement drive along his property to the main road. Turns out legally he has to allow them to use the easement road even though it is fully on his property because their driveway, which opens on a different street, is in a floodplain. Just saying if they are blocking a legal easement the city may force them to remove it.

Rinda, I'm glad you found your legbar boy, but I sure do feel bad that you lost your others. Were they project birds or lovies? If your test legbar was in there, I'm betting you lost some good breeding stock. My condolences.

Well I thought I lost my test legbar cockerel who was invaluable, a rir hen, my new swedish flower hen from cathiesue, and the sfh's chick. I heard the rooster crowing his heart out from the barn about lunchtime, and the sfh showed up after dinner tonight just as hubby got home from work.

The only body I recovered was the rir but I assumed the others were dead as well. The onky one unaccounted for now is the chick.

Here's my boy. He's the pride and joy of my Cream Legbar breeding program but I am test breeding him to check his egg color genes. I was beside myself when I thought I'd lost him. I was also dreading telling CathieSue that my dog got the chicken she sold me right after I got it- that happened the LAST time she sold me a swedish flower hen pullet, too! So glad it showed up!

I slack off for a day or two and miss SO much...the ups and downs of the OK thread. I hope everyone's Tuesday was better than Monday and that Wednesday finds us all a tiny bit happier and healthier.

@ashtree, my SFH roo looks just like Arlo's. I haven't named a chicken since "The Great Weasel Attack of 2014," but these little birds may be the first. I can't get over how friendly they are.

I'm thinking about getting my birds NPIP tested. And possibly paying to get approval (not sure what it's called, but I think it's $50ish). Thoughts? Reasons for? Reasons against?

darn, she was hoping a pullet... had to share... mr elliot being a flirt and Lilly one of the girls from the first poops i went to going strong- no one argues with her, even the guineas move out of her way, i am sold on brahmas, she has never been sick
