***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We are hoping for some rain from this next front this weekend!
I've been out watering the carrot and turnip seed beds every morning and evening to keep them moist enough for sprouting.

A hen in her nest box hatched 3 chicks yesterday so I moved her to a wall cage with the chicks and one remaining egg. Will check it in a bit to see if there is any progress. Several hens had laid eggs in her nest over the past few days...I didn't want to disturb her close to hatch date. Another two hens have been brooding in the same 10 holer. They had several eggs too. So I broke down and candled them. Any with signs of life were marked and went under those two broody hens and another broody in the layer room.. There were 9 extra eggs so I split the clutch. Sheesh. I still have 5 hens sitting on empty nests in the layer room that I'm emptying twice a day. I think I will move all the broody hens in the brooder room and shut the door separating the area. They will either remain sitting or the move will break them.

It was soooo hot yesterday as I cut down sunflower trees. I made two trips with the Ranger filled with branches I was literally drenched.

Still haven't heard from McBride in the city about lab work, EKG and xrays. Guess I will have to call the doctor's office to see if they need to fax new orders. The doctor only operates on Mondays so at least I know I have another week to get things done.

I am currently working my butt off! We have so many projects going on and not enough hours in the day.

@NanaKat We just got a big dog crate for our ducks. (Thanks again @ksane :) ) As soon as we get the barn cleared I will move the ducks there and put the pair in a crate/run setup. I'll keep in touch. And how do
you keep up with all those broody hens and their chicks? That sounds like a full time job without all the other stuff you do!

Tomorrows gonna be awesome; see the weather forecast???? 72??? Bring on the fall! Me and my sweater collection are ready! And we want some of the rain too, the ponds looking sad.

So, I knew we had a silkie/sizzle roo because I was getting fertilized eggs but I couldn't figure out who the culprit was :gig Well, within an hour of moving our chickens from city to country (that was a fiasco; 2 dogs, 2 cats, too many chickens, 5 kids, and a brooder full of babies all in 1 van-we joked we were a traveling circus) our sizzle crowed. :) maybe he was waiting to make sure it was safe??? Sure was cute, even though I was really hoping he would be a she. I know my partridge silkie is a roo but he's not the dominate so the sizzle is doing the "work" I presume. I really wanted the partridge/porcelain pairing. Oh well.

Ok, off to work on the barn. :fl for a VERY productive weekend!

That's funny @ashtree ! Good luck with the rest of the move!

Looking forward to the cooler weather and trying to line up all my outside projects- really really trying to have all the pens and buildings set up for the cold wet winter that is forecasted. Makes me nervous to not be prepared! The one thing we don't have yet that we wanted to have by winter was a backup generator. Time to start trolling craigslist I suppose....

I've been here too, the momma rabbit had another litter 8 this time her smallest, but it is her 3rd litter since June so no complaints at all. Down to one guinea, they keep disappearing one at a time, the silly birds won't go in at night, they are so skiddish there is no catching them even at night. Trying to make a few descisions about which birds are staying, which are going to freezer camp and which girls I am going to try and rehome.

Anyone looking for swedish flower hen cockerels? Looks like I have 4 boys out of 6 chicks :( Im keeping Arlos favorite (Bonnie) but we're hoping to rehome the rest. I can get pictures if anyone's interested. 2 are really incredible and 1 of those 2 is the leader and does a great job with the little flock; he's my favorite.

Anyone going to the Stilwell Poultry Auction tonight? I have some leghorn pullets and a Cayuga drake going through. I love the sale! Can't wait to see what all is there!
