***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I hate to say anything just in case I jinx myself with eggs in the incubator right now and all but I may have a weird problem. I don't think I have enough boys. I know crazy right? I lost several chickens and cockerels to a predator and now they are confined to the coops. I only have one blue bantam Cochin cockerel from the spring hatch and he has 13 ladies. 3 are bantam Cochins, 4 are bantam Cochin mixes, 2 are d'uccles, 1 is an OEGB, and 3 are my SFH teenagers ( I thought one was a cockerel but no pointy feathers at all). I was hoping to separate out my SFH 's this spring and hatch eggs from them so should I get a cockerel now or wait till the spring? Noone is laying eggs right now and everyone is getting along and happy even with no more free ranging. How hard will it be to find a nice rooster then introduce him to the flock?

Well you could check Craig's list but good luck finding a bantam rooster I browse okc craigslist quite often there's plenty of ads it's just finding a good bird! But not to hard if you know where t look!

Unless you are hoping to hatch some this winter might as well wait until spring. Then start putting the word out here and the facebook sale/swap pages of what you are looking for. I would think you should be able to find them then. The nice thing about getting them now is they have plenty of time to establish a pecking order and get busy- you hit the ground running as soon as the hens start laying good in the spring. If you wait until spring you might have a few weeks or months getting everyone to get along and get fertility up in the hatching eggs.

I think those are my boys. They are so much bigger now. They're getting big fast! I love them so much. I really want to keep them all but I have 4 boys and 2 girls. If I dont rehome them I may make them capons.

But I have a raspy sounding d'uccle right now, so Im hesitant to let anything go until I figure out whats going on. Everyone gets their 2nd dose of worming early next week.

Did bumble foot surgery on 1 of my ducks today. Got a little kernel out of 1 foot and a whole lot of cottage cheesy stuff out of the other but no kernel. Does anyone know if thats normal?

Ive had good and bad craigslist experiences. But its where I list my birds when I need to move them.

I didn't know those were your birds. I will gladly buy one from you if you decide to sell them then.
