***OKIES in the BYC III ***

As much as I loved them, I doubt I'd order more of those. She was the last of the Indian Red Jungle Fowl my mother ordered for my birthday. The others all disappeared one by one in the space of two weeks... I'm pretty sure because they freeranged so wide they made excellent snacks for the wildlife. I could have kept them cooped up, but by the time I could have had the coop set up they were all gone. When the rest of their little flock disappeared, Junebug started hanging out at the house and stopped traipsing off into neighboring pastures. These birds just weren't meant for my kind of set-up. It's too bad, because they really were some of the most engaging birds I've ever owned.

@HeyBigRhondaq the broody couldn't be a better first time mama. 1 of the 2 was not accepting them but the other took over and has 4 beautiful babies under her wings. :)

Today's been so great; I've spent the last 3 days doing so many things to be totally prepared for the weather and it's really nice to hang out with the chickens today and realize there's nothing I urgently need to do. Though there is plenty to do, just nothing I'm stressing over.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather! I'm from northern Illinois and DH is from Michigan, we both love the sunny, cold days.

It has taken me all day and many trial fittings and alterations and he doesn't like it, but maybe it will keep him warm

That is really, really cute. It looks very functional. Did I show you the outfits I made for Maggie last winter? I made them from doggie clothes on sale. They worked great. I have a sweater he can have. It covered her wings too much and she didn't like it. I sent u a PM Hubby finally finished Abraham's coop, but I want to add a few warmer touches to it.

Kyz, if you want a cuddly feathered buddy you soooo need a Serama! Ask Robin. My Seramas' favorite thing in the whole world is getting snuggled up in a tiny blanket and held watching TV. They don't poop on you when you're snuggling with them (I don't know why). They're seriously tame like puppies. The roosters are my favorite, I suppose for the same reason all roosters are my favorite. And their tiny crows sound like little squeaks. The next auction you go to? Buy a Serama boy. It'll be the best $3 you ever spent. I've got one I'd like to place that you can use for a loaner to see if it's something you'd want, if you like.

You have loaner chickens??? ROFL! How about rent-a-chick? I would seriously consider it, but eventually I'd want to put him outside and I'm thinking I'll need one that can hold its own with the flock.

I deboned 5 rabbits today then made this for supper This is just before going in the oven
Mmmmmm tasty! Love the bacon on rabbit. Are you making green tomatoe wine? I would like to try with my surplus.

Seramas are great...one of my pair is beginning to lay. So far no fertile eggs...but I'm hopeful.... My favorite shoulder ornament has been an Spangled OEGB. My Buddy would fly up to my shoulder while I would feed the cage birds. He would stay on my shoulder and seemed to tell me all about the goings on in the coop with corps, nuzzles and a little purring sound. When tasks were finished, we would sit in a chair and Buddy would eat a little scratch from my hand. I really miss him...haven't had one that friendly since.

I dont know if anyone remembers, but a month or more ago I got I chick I thought was a serama and then decided must be an OEGB. Now Im starting to think its actually a serama. Its SUPER tiny and has yellow legs, I dont know enough about the breed to know either way, Ill post pictures later, but I am really hoping it is not a serama, not that I wouldn't love that much cuteness, but I have no way to keep a chicken inside long term. So is it possible for a hatchery to have seramas? Does that ever happen?
