***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I still have not figured out what's going on with my gasping/wheezing hen. I feel like maybe there's an obstruction in her airway? Is there something I can do to help that? I did not feel anything from the outside of her throat. She has been keeping up with the flock but felt bone thin when I picked her up today. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I laughed so hard when I saw this!

A good friend saw this on Instagram and just knew it had to be my post! My first thought was- My chicks aren't all yellow!

Daughter and I are still out of town, but I thought I'd check in. My MRI showed a grade 2 MCL tear. That means at least 3 weeks in a rather large leg brace but NO SURGERY. Woot!

I'm missing my chickens--especially the new chicks. I can't wait to see how 5 days change them!

I should be there around six. Save me a warm spot?

If there is a warm spot, I'll put my chairs on it : )
Do auctions have warm spots in the winter, other than that spot where someone spilled their coffee?

The warmest spots are the spaces with good friends gathered in them. Find us at the auction and you'll feel what I'm talking about. I'll be wearing a green felt jacket with a bright red shirt underneath. If you can't find us, stand with your back to the auction table and shout, "Where's Poco?" We'll direct you from there.

If you don't see an obstruction in her throat, and she doesn't respond to antibiotics, consider treating for external parasites and then putting the hen back on antibiotics. External parasites are hard to see sometimes, and they can tax the health of the strongest birds. Treat with Ivomec pour on. I've seen underweight birds gain weight quickly after the little blood suckers are banished. A bird weakened by external parasites may develop a respiratory infection, but once the little vampires are gone, Tylan 50 will usually clear the infection.

a couple ideas, has she been wormed? possible gape worm- also, have you treated for respiratory?

Gape worm is pretty rare, but it's the first thing I thought of, based on the description. Shine a light down her throat and see if there's anything that looks unusual. Not only would you see gape worm, if it were there, you should also see if there's any blisters that would indicate some other illnesses. Definitely treat for parasites, because they can cause an illness to kill a bird that would have otherwise survived it.

X3. Treat for parasites then an antibiotic is probably your best bet.

Not decided yet if I'm going to the auction. Today's my daughter's birthday and I have plans to go pick up some new chickens tomorrow already. I don't have anything I want to bring to the sale this time anyway.
