***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Leon is practicing to be "The Man." He strutted his stuff all morning, and I think the hens are either swooning (or maybe they are just worn out).
Note how much Justin Beeber resembles Leon. Perhaps other celebrities take their hair style tips from distinguished roosters.

OMG he's adorable.So glad he's doing well.

Been so busy and distracted the past month. I'm combining hens into 2 "big hen" laying yard and 1 Bantam yard. Also took down a few fences to make a 50x165 Rooster yard.

@NanaKat I sort of dropped the ball as far as getting those roosters from you. The Wyandotte/Cochin boy is one of my top 5 favorites :-O He actually walks right up to me and stands there while I bend down and pick him up. Then we cuddle and discuss how special he is. While he was still in quarantine he got some kind of respiratory crud and bubbles in his eyes. I told myself I was going to start culling if that happened since I have so many roosters. Couldn't do it. He's SOOOOO beautiful and tame, his name is Rocket Man. He likes when I sing that song to him lol So he got Tylan injections and Amoxi, for quite some time actually. It was probably something here he'd never been exposed to before, I bet. Him and his buddy just got out of their 30x30 yard and into the back yard today. My 12 favorites are in the back yard as long as they get along. The others are in the enlarged bachelor yard. They all get along amazingly well.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

To anyone that's had a bird picked up by the ok state department to be necropsied, how long did it take to receive test results? Also do they mail the results? Would calling get me answers any sooner? I'm heartbroken over this, and just afraid to even think about future chicken plans. So I'm, like I'm sure everyone else has been, eager for results.

Didn't realize you haven't shown before, Rinda. What do you plan to show. Good luck!

A pair of spitzhaubens, a pair of black copper marains, and a trio of cream legbars. I sent the proposed SOP for the Cream Legbars in with my paperwork so it can be forwarded to the judges. We created it using the UK standard with the help of Walt Leonard, who is on the APA board and is also a judge.

Today I have noticed 100's of Bee's, they seem to be around the feeders in all of my chicken coops/pens. Will they hurt the chickens, and will the chickens eat the? Don't know where they are coming from, I am not aware of any neighbors who raise bees.

They won't hurt anything. The super warm weather brings them out of winter mode, but there is nothing for them to eat yet poor babies. :( If it stays warm all week and then freezes again many hives will die, because they will eat up their winter stores during the warm period. I'm feeding my bees in the morning. If you want to keep them away from the chicken food leave a tray of sugar water out in the sun, with a few sticks floating in it for them to land on. 1:1 sugar/water ratio.

Thanks, Kass. This spring, I will be paying lots of attention to what's happening in the Hercules Habitat. I have one other NN hen, also the daughter of Hercules, but she does not carry SC. When they are all laying, and I can tell which egg belongs to which hen, I'll start setting the most promising eggs.
I haven't seen bees hurt chickens. I have seen my NN chase, catch, and eat bees. The Black Tailed Buff Marans will as well. The big green beetles that look and sound like bees, until you see them up close, are a favorite snack for chickens too. My husband thinks they are hornets, but they are really just flying beetles.

HA that is HILARIOUS!!!! I've seen several roosters that remind me of Elvis, too!

The once I sent a bird in, they mailed me the results after about 2 or 3 weeks. You could probably call after a week and ask if there are any results yet, they might have some preliminary results but any cultures may not yet be complete at that time.

@artsyrobin I've never seen a frizzle that had half smooth feathers. But that fro on her back is very unusual! Maybe a molt issue?

!
i have no idea, she was a hatchery bird, and you know how questionable breeding from hatcheries can be- she isn't friendly but sure pretty to look at-

@Poco Pollo he reminds me of this little doll!

the neighbors dog was back today- so he spent the day chained, he was looking intently at the ducks and guineas- who weren't happy abut him being there- then tonight we let him off and shot over his head hoping he will get the hint- he is obviously well fed- and they managed to keep him penned for 2 weeks- so time will tell

I have been told it tastes nasty so that would explain your problem. Many people add a little sugar to the water to mask the taste. They don't drink it as well as plain water but they do drink it well enough at the regular dosage I don't feel it's worth the trouble to cart sugar out with me.
