***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I don't know, but I hear it's the place to be. ;)

Welcome to BYC!

I 've been a member since 9-8-13, but I'm usually on the peafowl section! I found this site the other day when I was looking for others in Ok. I'm looking for Cochin hens. I need some to incubate some peahen eggs.

Very cool. I'm happy for you.
FYI, I was unable to find anyone local who wanted those eggs. But, I found a local, who is incubating those eggs, for me. So, hopefully, in about 3 weeks, I'll be picking up a few little cheep-cheeps. And, I'll have a better idea, what my hatch rate is like.

Also, if anyone has an incubator, that they aren't using, and would like to rent it out, in trade for some eggs or chicks, please, let me know. I really do want to try to do some incubating, but, I simply can't afford even the cheap ones, from Amazon, right now.

Someone asked me about numbered leg bands, but I've forgotten who it was. A couple will be at the Pryor show with a very good supply of small poultry equipment and medications. Would be worthwhile to go to that show just for their selections. It's always a nice, well-run show as well.

Then I stand corrected on my thoughts. My Cochin Bantam cock bird is small and when he slips in to a nest box for a nap, he covers about four hens eggs.
How big is a peafowl egg next to a hen's egg?

I know of a peafowl breeder in Texas that uses silkies for setting on peafowl eggs. Cochin bantys would work about the same. They set 2 eggs under each hen (one for under each wing) let them hatch and raise them to half grown. Said they get the best hatch than any other method they've ever tried.

I'm so sorry Robin. I'm sure she lived a good full life with you.

@Poco Pollo
Look what that goose did!!!

We think there's a baby elephant in there. At least my toddler is hoping so.

Probably a pterodactyl in there. She laid some eggs here, but they were only the size of goose eggs. She must be a happy, happy goose. I'm so glad you were able to give her a home.
Does this look fertile??!

Ummmm. That is a fertile egg. Can ducks cross breed with geese? Is that possible? Would the resulting offspring be a guck?
