***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@NanaKat for my next batch I may do something different. These chicks are rough in the bator! The other eggs have been knocked and rolled, climbed on ect. They definitely are coming out quicker.... Most likely because my feisty one pecks at them until they get out! I suppose that's one way to cheer them on

@NanaKat the next batch I put in are costing me more than I like to think of and are rare finds. I am going to have 40 in there...I really like your idea of the cartons. So do you just punch a decent size hole in the bottom and move them from the turner to the carton? And they hatch with no issue and get out of the carton?

First day of Spring...love this photo...

Song of Solomon 2:11-12 . . . ♫ For behold, the winter is past . . . The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land ♫ . . .

Yes, they can get out okay and sometimes climb back into an empty cup.
Yes, that is what I do and I cut off the top just using the egg cups.... Use once and toss so any egg gunk goes with the egg carton.
I cut up some of my cartons into units of 6 and 9 for any late hatch eggs when I remove the chicks and egg debris. .

If I have a whole lot of eggs, I will position the eggs crate either in the center or around the outside edges leaving plenty of room for the chicks to crawl around and fluff up... so the chicks don't crawl under and get stuck.

I like to look in the little windows to check on the eggs and to look at the digital thermometer/humidity .
When I use a syringe to squirt a little extra warm water in because the humidity may have dropped, the cartons might get damp but hold their shape. Usually as the eggs begin to pip, you will see a little rise in the humidity level because of the moisture in the eggs and on the damp chicks. Not often do I have to add any water.

I have 14 a day that i give away as eating eggs, but I'm in Skiatook.

Thank you so much, but you are a bit too far, darn it!

I have some, but I'm in Norman.

What do you want for them? You're the closest to me. I have family there and can visit them when I pick them up. Email me if you would worth a time that works for you. [email protected]

Thank you, where are you located?

Hello fellow Okies!! I didn't know there was an Oklahoma section on here, awesome. I pretty new to chickens, only had them for about a year. Started with 6 now I have close to 100, LOL
Hatched out my first batch of chicks this past weekend, had 3 out of 5 hatch, Black Marans and 1 Buff black-tailed Marans. It was my practice

Welcome and good luck on hatching babies
