***OKIES in the BYC III ***

No, the coop I mean the building.
Even if some jurisdictions decided that the run is part of the coop, that wouldn't affect this city's written city ordinance which specifies "building."

I don't know of any city in Oklahoma that expects you to keep your birds in the coop only. I'm guessing coop with attached run is the correct interpretation. Do you have or are you planning to get chickens?

What did you decide on and why?

I love hearing about the reasons people got their birds but it makes me want more!
Wanted to try Javas for meat, maybe keep a roo, but too late to order more right now( http://www.idealpoultry.com/item.html?i=111) Supposed to be the, or the second, oldest American heritage breeds.
Settle on "Black Broiler (?)", "Cackle's Red", Delaware, or "Rainbor Ranger"

Layer preference in order or whatever's available:

Easter Egger, RIR, Golden Comet, Buff O, Barred Rock
Finalizing price with shipping now. Check back in @ 30 min. Then it's off to a day full of chores & the weekly trip to the dairy!

Something like Meyer's "Fry Pan Bargen" is tempting, all male selection but I'm not certain, as a first timer, we'd definitively know the pullets to keep in a couple months.

That sounds like a lot of chickens for in town Tulsa? How many are you planning on? A rooster will get you complained on sooner then anything?

Can't wait to see what kind of babies i get from my bantams. Silkie was setting on them then she quit so i borrowed a bator and had one hatch the other day but didn't make it (look like a buff cochin) but i have 6 more in there and i can here two peeping and all the others excpt one wiggled in the water candling. Hoping they hatch out ok and are healthy.

There's a bunch of blocks they didn't put streets in, so the lot is a block from front curb to back fence =54 acres. There's only been one annoying neighbor & she put up a privacy fence.
Cock collar should quiet him... if we decide to keep one. Those are the eat'in chickens.

54 acres in Tulsa!!! My sounds like a great location. I would start w/ the crow collar early, I tried putting one on my grown roos and they laid down like the were dead and wouldn't get up. I tried it several times w/ the same results. Mine are NN so that might make it a little different since they have little to no feathers under and around the collar.

The eating boys you may find you need to process ealier then you would like to keep crowing down. Some crow pretty young.

I have eggs in the bator too, w/ broody mom or two waiting in the wings to raise them.
