Too young to be sure. Upright crests sorta indicate boys with really full crests, but also could be girls. Check the combs, you sometimes can get an indication from that.

I had one that I was sure a boy even though rounded, full crest. Showed it as a cockerel; had a few small "streamers" and had always behaved like a male. Won best of variety. By the time of the next show, "he/she" had laid an egg, so showed her as a pullet. The very experienced judge changed it to cockerel and "he/she" won best of breed. She now acts completely female.

Thanks for the information on canning what about Blanche and freeze same thing. I seem to remember the wife buying frozen from the store with the peel on.

Hey everybody, its been a while since we've been on here. We are down to just Serama's and Buff Orphingtons and right now we are working on downsizing our Serama flock. We have a couple of dozen Seramas of many different colors for sale if any body is interested you can call us at 405-205-7629 or send a pm.

Any opinions on using ash from wood fires on the mud around my coop and run? It is pretty stinky and my husband thinks this will help. The chickens are out free ranging now.

I've resorted to using pine shavings wherever I needed moisture "whicked" away, plus it smells great, will compost over time, and isn't that expensive. I had two deep holes in my run that were holding water & smelled "Lord have MERCY" awful! I put two full bags down & it worked like a charm. The run is covered, but we had the rain blowing in from the south & it may as well not had a top! Also, when I raised horses this was my cure every time the barn/pens were a muddy mess, that and mats, but those ARE expensive, plus very heavy.

Can you do me a huge favor? Can you open your package and tell me how many tablespoons of powder are in it?

-Kathy

The best I could tell, scooping one tbs out of the package at a time, (with my 3yr old granddaughter chatting non-stop :) ), was 18 tbs in the package.

I've been doing 1 tbs per gallon & last night was the third "dose". Today they're definitely improving.

What do you think?

@NanaKat ... my husband is good, yours is better! ;) I don't think he'd let me house her in this house, but luckily we have an older house I've turned into my brooder/sick house lol
I hope shew enjoyed her spa treatment!

I put wood ash in their dust bath spots. I also add DE and poultry dust. They love it and it really seemed, in the past, to help with mites. We will see about this year though.
