***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Is anyone here interested in a small flock of bantam Cochins? I've decided to go a different route and stay with standard sized birds. 2 Mille fleur Roos, a Mille hen, a partridge hen and 2 white frizzle hens. Can go all together or in 2 trios

Do any of you guys know anything about the auction in Maud on Thursdays?

The auction is on Thurs and starts around 5 pm and they usually sell junk out front first, then goats, then poultry and eggs... if you are going for chickens you will probably be there till a little after midnight most of the time. They usually have some decent chickens, I've rarely seen ducks and turkeys and I think I've seen geese and peafowl a couple of times. If you have any other questions you can ask away or inbox me. I've been there a few times since it's the closest one to where I live.

Edit cause I found the phone number. If this is not okay to post on here then I will happily take it down, but it's Watson's Auction Service, phone number 405-374-2868

The snake moved. I can't find my branch loppers. I'm going to wait until DH gets home. The chickens are going in and out of the barn through the main door, but none have ventured past the feed barrels.

Get a stick and club'em like a baby seal, stomp a mud hole in'em then stomp it dry!!!

Coral...sure hope you got that snake.
Fortunately rat and bull snakes are not poisonous and can be grabbed behind the head and hit with a hammer. And a square point shovel can chop one I two pieces insuring a dead snake.

Sagetown! Is that shotgun 40 inches? Make that snake more than 6 feet! Big rat snake.

Had to put an emergency splint wrap on a young rooster because his leg was obviously broken between his foot and his knee. He was under his coop building and when I got him out, I figured out why he was hiding. We used popsicle sticks, cotton padding and athletic tape. He is using his foot and was able to spring to the top of the coop. He was one of the birds headed to freezer camp in a few days....had to delay my processing days...I have about 10 birds to process and sure want a freezer that will do the job.
My new freezer was delivered Sunday, BUT the upright was not getting cold 24 hours later. So Lowes is sending out a replacement one on Thursday. Lowes was great and immediately worked out the problem. Apparently once in a while an appliance is roughly handled in shipping and just won't work correctly.
Hens are hatching chicks this week. I have three in one nest that hatched two of their six eggs but were sticking to the nest, not tending the two chicks. I swooped up the two babies, put them in the brooder and candled the remaining four eggs. Since those four were not going to hatch, I replaced the eggs with incubated eggs that should hatch tomorrow. I can give the two chicks back to the Mom Trio when these eggs hatch. I gave them 12 and will toe punch the rest in the incubator and let the Mom Trio raise them too.

Garden hint: If you haven't rooted your tomato cuttings for fall tomatoes, you can still do it this week and have tomatoes before frost. I pick the biggest to put in a shallow box and cover with newspaper to slide under a bed. When they begin to change color, they go on a window sill to finish ripening. The rest make great fried green tomatoes and green tomatoe pickles.

Hello NanaKat : Yup; real close .... It's an old pump .22 caliber with an external cocking hammer. I use tiny #12, bird shot that's so small it won't damage metal, and may not penetrate into wood, but it's deadly to snakes , rats, and mice at a distance up to 10 feet.
6 foot long are size of snakes I have to deal with. Never had a small snake to attack my chickens. Because of their large size I feel those big snakes are old, and desperate. Like an old sick lion that can't take wild game anymore, and begins to kill domestic animals and humans.

My Red Currant Tomatoes are out of control again this year. They are so tiny and time consuming to pick but this year I am waiting till all the fruit on each cluster is ripe and I cut off the whole cluster. I toss the clusters in the pens and watch the festivities. There are so many that
everybody gets plenty.
