I guess its just mine then haha. Have had 2 or 3 that have been sitting throughout the entire "winter"- although hard to call it much of a winter. Mine aren't so friendly- but they'll sit on eggs lol.
Glad she is alive, good luck with the clutch. Keep us updated?
For any of those that have had broody turkeys brooding away from the coop - do you put out food or water for them? She would have to travel some distance to get to chow, and I am not sure of her schedule - there are some mornings when the coop gets opened up a bit late. There is always water out, but she still has to travel out of the cow yard, through a fence and around to near the fence to get to it. My biggest concern is that food would attract possums or skunks...then of course, the cows would eat it too...
Go out in the evening and gently slide your hand palm down under your hen. You should be able to count quickly with your fingers. Slide your hand out and give her a few light handed stokes down her back. Even my most defensive broody is more calm at night and almost purr when stroked. My Dark Cornish hen has been setting for 4 days now. Yay. Not sure how many is under her.
Welcome to Oklahoma. I hope you like it here. What part of East Ok. did you move to?Good morning! My husband and I bought a farm in Eastern Oklahoma and will be moving there in two weeks from deep south Texas. We had to sell off all of our livestock and will be starting over again. I miss my chickens and ducks so bad! But I am glad to have more space for more chickens. I do have a serious chicken addiction problem....
How do the Coturnix do in our extreme heat in late summer?
