***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Uh oh! One of my pullets that just started laying has a small prolapse. It doesn't seem to be bleeding except for a little streak on her eggs, which are medium sized and well formed. She also doesn't seem to be in distress about it. Aside from keeping it clean and and some Preparation H, is there anything else I should know? How often to apply the Prep H? Should I give her a frozen bag of peas to sit on? I only have experience with human hemorrhoids and prolapse, but it seems the treatment is very similar.

young hens often stretch as they lay and some blood streaks are normal. Might do two days of the prep H. The natural moisture that forms the bloom on the eggs is antibacterial and helps heal any little stretch splits.

I love those quilts, too. Bravo! I'm just learning to sew at 35, and the only thing I've been able to make so far is a baby dress out of her daddy's old button up shirt. My sewing tutor had never taught an adult before, so I told her to teach me like she would teach a child. Lol!

Been busy trying to get grasshopper things done.
Got my smoker wood ready with apple n mesquite

Took time to enjoy my hummingbird while it was cool on the mornings. They ignore me as I sit within arms length and watch now

I hope everyone gets a little time to relax with the upcoming holiday. My son and I went last night and did a little shooting that was a little different from the norm. We got the privilege to run a full auto Submachinegun.
I'm heading to pickup my moms chickens then to get place to build the coop and harvest giant sunflowers.

My poor prolapsed pullet laid a jumbo egg today. She's only been laying for a week. The egg on the top is hers, the egg below it is an extra large farmer's market egg. I immediately put some preparation H in and on her vent after she laid.

Nana I took some pics for you. I just can't get them from my phone to the computer. I'll keep trying.

dunnmom Ouch. My new Cornish bantams just started laying this week. Except the easter egg hunt no problems with them yet.

On a better note my GF had someone from her work give her 3 red laying hens the feeder and waterer. She isn't a chicken person and they were her husbands.

Another Backyard Chicken Setup
My mom decided she needed a few so between that and harvesting giant sunflowers my morning was accomplished.
They will be roaming the yard and eating sunflower seeds well after she quits feeding them broccoli n pasta leftover salad

Our Buff Orpington has saddle feathers and 2 sickle feathers .... sure bad luck trying to get a buff ... this was our second try. All this time I was sure it was a pullet (all were sold as pullets) and thought the rooster was quite smitten with her ... actually thought they were flirting. Bummer! He seems to be the only one who listens to the rooster and they have spent a lot of time checking each other out. He has not crowed yet.

Sure hope all the others are pullets. Not seeing any male feathering on them though.
