So I have one Easter egger that has chosen to roost out side of the coop on a roost in the run. Should I be overly concerned. I have put a light in the coop tonight for some warmth. Any ideas?

Considering the hawk roosted on my porch last night to stay outta the wind yeah I'd be worried but dunno what u can do

Glad that 50mph wind died down. Chickens wouldn't even come outta coop to eat some warm oatmeal this morning
Guess -14 is too much.

@Matt in Okla Glad yours made it through the night ok. Our girls are definitely more cold than hungry. They came out of the coop 2 hours later than usual, and have taken up residence underneath it. We spent about an hour yesterday putting up insulation on the outside of the coop, roof to ground, because we found out that they think shiny backed polystyrene foam board is like a big popcorn ball and kept eating what we put inside the coop. I was less worried about their ability to pass that stuff than the fact that they were filling up on it instead of their food. At least they are eating their BOSS. Next year, I think we'll use something more sturdy, or just skip the interior insulation.

My hid somewhat hid from the wind yesterday in the garden. Today at -1 they were more than happy to come out and scratch.

mine haven't come out yet. My ducks are out and about. they have their own coop but they decided to huddle under the chicken coop. Hopefully my girls will come out. This is their second winter and last year wasn't really cold.

Well had water at 7 when I made the girls their oatmeal and then none at 8 so pipes froze in an hour grrr

I hope everyone's birds are doing well in this cold

so far the orps don't mind it at all except for the wind lol all my other birds are spoiled lol and are enjoying life inside a nice and warm green house. the Old English game bantams must think it is spring because they are really starting to lay

should have lots of fluffy butt babys soon

I hope everyone is staying warm and dry today! It's a crisp 27 degrees here with sunshine, but the chickens are enjoying themselves. They ran out of their coop when I let them out and ate up every bite of scratch I gave them.
