***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Processed sand plums yesterday making juice. They are ripening later than usual but are nice plums.

Moved eggs to the hatching tray last night for a June 16 hatch date. Will have this hatch and one more July 2 and will be done hatching except for any broody hens.

I know Pryor, Oklahoma always has a poultry swap and sale every 2nd Saturday of the month at Orschlens store. And I have heard also that Broken Arrow has a swap and sale at the tractor supply store but I do not know when. And as for an auction they have one at Chupps Auction in Inola, OK every 1st Saturday of the month and the poultry, rabbits and animals are auctioned off very first things in the morning, like 7:30-8:00am.
Crozier Auctions holds a poultry auction at the Coweta Fairgrounds the third Friday of every month. Next one is this Friday, June 16. It starts at 6:00 PM and lasts a LOOOOONG time. They sell "farm-related" goods first, then hatching eggs, then chicks, then adult fowl. I usually show up at about 7:30 and they are still selling the "farm-related" goods.

There are many broody hens sitting on eggs: two Serama hens, two Old English, a Columbian Wyandotte and two Bantam Delaware.
Three layer hens have been trying to go broody so I might let them "adopt" some chicks from the hatcher. They have been protecting eggs in the nest boxes for two weeks...unsuccessfully since I collect both morning and evening. Will move them tonight to cages on fake eggs and then substitute chicks for eggs after the incubator hatch. These girls are great mothers and very willing to raise babies.
Two Cochin hens are brooding 20 chicks in a floor pen in the barn. Will let them begin free ranging with their two week old chicks this weekend after the predicted rains.

What breed are your setting layers?

The peeps are now 8 days old and doing great!

I can't believe what a mild summer we're having so far. It's been nice. My girls are just now getting hot enough to pant so I gave them an under-bed storage tub as a wading pool in their run. They've dug a hole in one corner about big enough for 2 at a time to lounge in. We've got a small veggie garden going with tomatoes, potatoes, okra, squash, snow peas, and snap peas. All of our greens and asparagus have bolted, though.
