***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes, I'm seeing round tipped feathers on the neck and bodies of several...green band red band and one of the no band.
Cockerels have pointed neck and wing feathers. The bigger no band has a spur.
Not sure on the other two.
Hens don't normally have spurs while young roosters do.

Depending on age and season when hatched, some meat birds don't begin laying until 8-9 months.

Thanks NanaKat! I'm not very good at telling the boys from the girls yet.

Well, green band (Sophie!) is one of two or three that are already crowing. They actually came out of the coop and back down the ladder when we got home tonight. No one was here today to offer them unfrozen water and they were thirsty! I was looking at them and they all have large tails that are sticking up with curved tail feathers. I will for sure take a picture of each one of them this weekend so you all can give me your best guesses. (And I don’t care if I saw the crow with my own eyes or not - “she” will always be Sophie to me!)

Well, I've been tricked. One or more of my girls has been laying eggs under the coop for at least a few days. I found one intact egg and two broken ones that may have been eaten. I marked the intact one and put it in the nestbox. Hopefully they will lay where they're supposed to and not eat the decoy. Ha!

I've been gone for a few months and I get back on here, and ain't nothin going on!
WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? . . . . . . . BTW . . . . .

The Okie thread used to be the busiest thread in the BYC. WHAT'S THE DEAL???

Well, hi! I was told it was a combination of folks being busy with other things, and dislike for the changes to the site. Maybe it will pick back up during the warmer months.

We have lost touch with a lot of the "old timers"....a shame.
Spring should bring more activity as folks check in to visit about their projects.
I'm hatching test eggs, moving chicks around and setting up breed pens.

Thanks for answering my post. I was beginning to thing something was wrong with my connection here.
I don't know. I get busy with other things as the weather warms up. That's what happened with me last summer. I got to busy to get on here, but then a few months ago, I couldn't get logged back in. Then I got another computer and BYC wouldn't send me my password, so I had to start over and sign back up in order to log in.
I just figured seeing as it's so cold out, people would be sitting around inside here on the chicken site.
