***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ohhh, I understand that sentiment and Mr. Winchester! We have lost a total of 2 adult laying hens, 6 chicks, one bantam cochin to doggies here in the neighborhood. I'm keeping my camera handy - seems to scare the dogs when it flashes several pics in a row...also gives me some proof for the sheriff's men! Only have a bb gun, but it does sting 'em. We've had pit/boxer mix, black lab and some other mutt getting in. Don't want to kill 'em, but they just gotta quit eating dinner/breakfast at our house!

Sorry we didn't meet you tonight. Sept 10...?

You're braver than I am. I'm too afraid to approach a strange dog or get close enough to shoot a photo. I don't have a very high quality camera. If I've got a choice to shoot a photo or shotgun, I'll choose the shotgun first.

So sorry about your losses.

I hope to get to the Sept. 10th auction. Still looking for a few items. Hope to meet you there.

old*cowboy :

2 of my 3 NN hens I bought at the auction last night layed eggs all ready. Biggest chicken eggs I seen in a long time. People always saying, I want some laying hens. Suggest NNs, they say no they too ugly. I dont understand if they want eggs I thinkl I would go with the ones that put out the great big nice ones.

i agree i use to have an nn pair that would only run with my turkeys, they always stayed in the turkey coop, only part was, i hatched out so many nn when i was trying to get turkeys bewcause their eggs where so similar whn i was crossing turkeys

I saw several NNs at the auction last night. Didn't know it was you who bought them. We haven't met yet, have we? I just can't get used to the idea that those NNs are anything but ugly.

It seems that several folks here like them though.

Nicknames mean nothing to me, I can hardly remember real names. I bet we have met, or at least seen each other in a chicken crowd. I brought the 3 frizzle NN pullets and the 3 NN red roosters (stags). I took home 4 NN hens. I thought they were ugly too, then once I got one they have really grown on me. Now have the makings of a pretty good bunch of NN hens, even went so far is to get some of the NN game fowl (Madagascar). I think they are great.

easiest way to remember old cowboy is the mustache, i hadnt seen guy in what 8 years or so, and as soon as i heard him talk and saw the handlebar mustache i knew it was him.

Don,
it's not just normal math its chicken math. here are the basic principles.
Chicks don't count because you don't know what they are yet
Juveniles don't count because they can't lay eggs yet.
Cockrells and roosters don't count beacuase they can't lay eggs.
Any bird you might sell don't count because they are'nt really yours, your just watching it.
bantams hens are only 1/4 a chciken as they are small and lay small eggs.
Any Broody hen doesn't count because she is not laying at the moment.
Any hen that did not lay an egg that day doesn't count either.
So if you have 12 hens and get 4 eggs a day you really only have 4 chickens.

I Think you must be over feeding your "Chickens"
Does That help Don?

Oh crap, I trimmed it the other day, I do about every three years or so. It is short, but will be back to normal before long. Glad I trimmed it after u saw me, would have hated not talking to you.
