Thank's for shairing that with us.. I cant put on hear wat i would like to say about thim folk's....But it's coming hear if peep dont put a stop to it ...
They have a fed.bill up now on game chicken's trying to outlaw even having thim ...

What federal bill? Exactly how could they possibly determine pit games from other games? There is no set standard on what they look like. It's rediculous. Banning breeds of livestock is rediculous. Just as bad as the ban on horse slaughter.

I'm going to stop now. It just really depresses me. Like Michael, I have a whole lot more I'd like to say but this forum forbids it.

Don,
it's not just normal math its chicken math. here are the basic principles.
Chicks don't count because you don't know what they are yet
Juveniles don't count because they can't lay eggs yet.
Cockrells and roosters don't count beacuase they can't lay eggs.
Any bird you might sell don't count because they are'nt really yours, your just watching it.
bantams hens are only 1/4 a chciken as they are small and lay small eggs.
Any Broody hen doesn't count because she is not laying at the moment.
Any hen that did not lay an egg that day doesn't count either.
So if you have 12 hens and get 4 eggs a day you really only have 4 chickens.

I Think you must be over feeding your "Chickens"
Does That help Don?

Thanks Carl that helps , no feed this week

Yes, they are teddy bears. Alot of them follow me around and after DH fed them for 2 weeks, they follow him too. When ever I'd pick up my NN or one of Jack's large breeds I'm suprized because they peck me. My Cochins almost never do. My partridge rooster is the only one that sometimes does because he is mad that I'm not picking him up. I can help you get some more. Just call me "Dr. Cochin Enabler".

Don't feel bad, all of our Big Cochins are likely leaving either this fall or spring at the latest, i probably goint to fence in an area to let the Columbian Wyandottes run and just hatch what we want and a few extras, and I am going to get rid of at least 3 varieties of OE before spring. I fimly believe bit have not decided yet but I think the sebrights are leaving too. They all show well just too many and too high maintenance for what the value is anymore. I'm getting tired of spending $50 in feed to raise a bird that will sell $25-30 on a decent day or cockrells that are only $3 birds after ten times that in feed. I can eat them and come out ahead so I haven't sold that many this year I'd rather eat them than give them away.

Karl you are so right i totaly agree. we have put nearly a hundred three dollar krls.in the freezer probably didnt have but $12.00 alb.in them but they sure are good. Im thinking ill keep my buff brahma bantams, wellsumers, delawares, and a few bc marans. i think my showing is about done

I love doing projects like that. Well I did untill I finished my penn and mini coops this summer. I'm really happy with them but they wore me out. I'm sure I'll get the "creative solution" bug again by Fall.
I turned an old garden hose box into a little coop - Tore out all the reel system, cut open the front, put 1/2" hardware cloth in the bottom and braced it up off the ground, added a roost. It is cozy for a pair or trio of my bantams. A little pullet is already sitting on a couple of eggs in it.

Sounds like quite a project for someone who doesn't do power tools!!!

We are not building any new coops / pens this year, but haven't ruled out the possibility next year, but we do have a big (for us anyway) project scheduled for this winter. We are going to build a chicken moat around the garden, it will tie into their current run / garden set up. The goal is for more weed / bug control of the garden, but an added side effect will be extra run area meaning more room for a few more chickens. After the moat is finished I want to get a few females of the two breeds I have picked (arucana hopefully tufted and rumpless, and NN hopefully w/ pea combs and darker legs) then the next time I have a broody let her set eggs from the three breeds (EE roo over EE, arucana, and NN) and wait for my little suprises!!!!

Like the idea of the hose reel renovation

Yes, using an oldfashioned hand saw to cut the lengths of wood took some time.. I did use the belt sander to even up the cut ends of the boards and to smooth out some rough places. The west side of the barn was really warm by 11:30 am so called it a day.
