***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good to hear you are doing okay Okracefan! I had ask Nocity to try and get some pics of your cabin.we found one and were thinking the same thing for a temporary housing, would appreciate any pics and advice you can give.

On my way to take wife to work, then hav a bunch of honey dos to take care of.should get thru in time to go back and get her! No pen building today! Oh well looks like another hot one here anyway. Everyone take care.

Greetings,

The chickens and ducks are enjoying the cool morning. It was nice to feed and water the pens without having to wear a sweat band. We got a little rain last night, but it wasn't enough to leave puddles, so it must not have lasted long.

We've had a crew of painters sandblasting the paint off our rock house for the past seven days. There is a beach of sand on our porch and yard. Inside, we have a thin film of silt on everything. All the flying debris clogged my sinuses, and I felt like I had the flue. I've got a horrible headache today. Tomorrow they'll be scraping and calking to prepare the wooden areas of the house for paint. I'm considering camping out in the pasture to avoid the paint fumes next week.

I just talked to an asphalt company about sand and it's only $13 per TON! He said about a 1/2 ton will fit in the typical pickup truck. It's finer than course grit sand, he said people come get it all the time for sandboxes. I keep reading on here where you're supposed to use some kind of sharp grit sand for chickens, but do you suppose plain sand would be ok, too? They didn't have the sharp sand that people keep saying to use for chickens. I believe my chicken run and turkey pen flooring dilemma has just been solved. $6 for a pick up load! It's $3 for a 50 lb bag at Lowes :-O

Camping out may not help, I think the Cedar and weed pollen has hit the roof since th erecent rains, I have been plugged up and watery eyed since two days after the first rain. Its bad you have to hide from the heat for two months and when it finaly breaks you have to take meds that knock you out... I can't win this year.

Afternoon everyone! Guess I will be learning the hard way to clip wings! Last night while I let the dogs out to do their business and I cleaned the dog pens, it appears that my 5 month old BCM decided he wanted to "escape" by flying over our 8ft fence. Needless to say the "bird dogs" wanted to practice on him. Thank goodness I got to them in time! his butt is know all exposed and it appears he might have gotten a puncture wound on his back. I put some neosporin on it and a shot of antibiotics to be safe.

Sorry the pic is blurry, I took it this morning and he wouldn't stay still, which I assume is a good thing.

I am stopped up too. I hadn't been having trouble until we started getting rain again.

I say find someone who has a dump trailer. That is a LOT of shoveling. We used a dump trailer to bring in a few loads of gravel DH would barely lift it then drive slowly. Couldn't hae imagined unloading it without the dump trailer!

FYI about the sand. The bags of play sand you buy at Lowe's is cleaned, sifted and sterile as opposed to the sand you get at the asphalt company. Don't know if that will make any difference since it's going into your run, but ... just so you'll know.
