Some folks claim it leads to an impacted crop. But I'm going to have to just pick my battles and try it. Chickens scarf down *dirt like it's candy, I would think dirt would have as much chance of causing an impacted crop as sand. Besides, I spend so much time out there it'll make cleaning up with a cat litter scoop a breeze.

Evening everyone,

I'm spending a few minutes catching up on posts and waiting for it to get dark. I don't like to put the stragglers into their houses before the security light comes on. I want them to go in on their own. We've got a lot of nice grass coming up after our recent rain. I tied a bundle of grass for each pen and hung each bundle with a length of twine. Maybe if I leave the grass stems longer I can reuse the same length of twine tomorrow. the ducks made a happy discovery: three, big, fat, green grasshoppers were hiding in their grassy snack. What a racket they made!

Well the three little pigs were born today!

How is your baby today?

Mine is still hanging in there. The impaction is much reduced, but so is her energy. She may have a little temp and her comb was pale. I added a little brown sugar to her formula and an egg yolk and was able to spoon feed her about two tablespoons. Gave her an LA 200 shot today for possible infection. She was a little more perky this evening and was drinking and nibbleing on her own...even making a few chick noises.

Had to give a shot to the little black Cochin roo. He had a little swelling on his right eye and l have been using an antibiotic ointment on it. Today there were a few little tiny bubbles in that eye....time for the antibiotics! Also put a few drops of VetRX in the wter bowl.

I don't like it when one baby is not feeling good and now with two...

Last evening hubby moved 6 tractor scoops of compost and soil mix up by the pens and today we moved all that into the pens and sloped the grade to allow water to drain better. Worked over the hen run too and moved the sand back to the barn wall. Will have to seriously look at guttering along the roof line.....Honeydo.

This is the mottled hen that hatched last week, she is making a good momma.

P&B yes their eyes are open and they have hair and teeth. They can actually survive on their after just two days if they have too!. It takes them two months longer than a rabbit but once here they are mini adults ready to go!lol Yes I love the calico colors best.I was reall y surprised that the solid white mom had three of them. I was expecting solid colors.

Cute baby gpigs Wayne. I didn't know they were born with their eyes open. Love the little Seramas and Wyandottes too. You have a very colorful family! We used to raise hampsters when the girls were little...naked little babies.

Poco Pollo...I can just picture those ducks going after those big green grasshoppers!
