***OKIES in the BYC III ***

old*cowboy :

Anybody showing at Tulsa state fair. I think entries due in about 4 days.

I think we will hit newcastle instead, it is always a good show and a lot less hassle to get in and out, less risk for the birds too. been slowly moving some in for final molts and conditioning so hope they will be ready.

Hmm... I forgot about that one. Isn't the show in Newcastle limited to OEGB, Bantam Cornish, and Bantam Modern Game?

Well, I guess I won't be showing in Tulsa. I won't be able to be there that weekend. Already have prior plans.

All the Piggies went wee wee wee all the way to school

Today a special gal is having a Birthday... so I had the special honor of baking 48 piggy cup cakes and taking 30 of them to school to surprize the BIG 5 (as she had forgotten today was her special day) funny kindergarten must be that much fun to forget it was a special day for her...lol

Hah! I'm tough on my birds. They don't get the nice treats, frozen bottles of water, pen soakings, etc.. that y'all do for them. If they knew how to read this forum, they'd probably all revolt.

They have water and get fed once a day. Beyond that.. they either live or they die.

My Wellies came from eggs shipped to me from a BYC'er here on the forum. I think she lives in Illinois. They're around 3 - 4 yrs old by now, I think.

Got to agree with you on this Cuban, I water twice a day because my time allows it. I provide shade and cool water, quality feed. Beyond that it is the chickens job to do the rest. I think chickens and other animals are being pampered to the point that they are losing their ability to take care of them selves so to speak. Nature is the first round in the culling process. Maybe a man with amy health problems shouldnt say that.

I make sure they have shade, plenty of water, food, and I have a fan blowing in the coop for the ones that are laying in the heat. When I water them I wet some of the ground in the run make mud puddles for them. If I am home during the real hot part of the day and have a minute I run out and rewet some of the run. Most of it is set and forget, like the fans they just sit on a ledge on the door I never even have to mess w/ it or think about it at all, the shade cloths are put up once and I don't ever mess w/ them again, the water is the most labor intesive thing I do that is once or twice a day. Next year I'm hoping to have some plant trellis in place and let my veggies provide the shade for them.

When I water in the heat of day, I always let lots of water run over, they sure seem to like that damp dirt. (I consider that part of providing water)
