***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the photo. There were several cute ones as she sat there and had a talk with "Sassy". She wanted to hold the hen alot longer than the hen wanted to be held. lol Hard to make a little one understand that. I may look into entering the photo contest, sounds like fun. Now that I've learned how to post photos, let the fun begin. Talk about creating a monster!

I bought these beauties earlier this year at the Guy Rose auction. Does anyone recognize them? Can anyone tell me what breed they are? As best I can tell, I'm thinking they may be a cross?? Anyway, I thought if anyone can help me with this, ya'll can!

Don't let the green grass fool ya into thinking we've had rain... I water it. The bushes in the background tell the real story.

Not a clue, but they have a lot of similarities to some production red crosses we have. Maybe 1 part.

I can't tell you how wonderful it is for someone hasn't a clue to be able to get the kind of help you guys offer to these kids. I also have to comend chicken folks because our thought is give birds to the kids so they continue the tradition, not so with others. As a leader & a 4 H mom, thanks!

There are several shows within a 2-3 hr drive, what kind of help do you need? Or do you need to borrow some birds?

Well I was wondering about prep to get ready for a show. Like what to feed and where to keep the feather legged birds so they don't tear those feathers up and if you bathe them what do you use? And any other before stuff as well as how it works when you get there.
That said, borrowing birds would be great! I've got a couple that I'd like to take just to see how it goes but borrowing some that will actually show could make the difference in the whole experience

Did anyone answer this??? There are alot of things to do prior to the show but it isn't that hard. There are threads here on the this board that go over things to do. Once you look those up just ask anything you need clarification on.

Morning ,

It's still dark as ink and the wind is wicked out there. We had thunderstorms starting at 2:30. A crack of thunder woke me and sent me running to unplug my computer. Fearless Conner has been out chasing leaves. He patrolled the yard at 3:00, 3:30, and 4:00. There must have been a lot of leaf catching to do because he's snoring on the rug right now.

Score one for the dogs! They got a young raccoon last night!! I heard them barking a lot very near the house, but didn't have what it takes to get up and check. This one is about half grown. I couldn't find any signs of wounds on the dogs, but their rabies shots are current, and I'll keep an eye on them. Good dogs!! Nothing in the traps nor bait taken for two nights now. Obvioiusly, there are still some around, but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The two remaining guineas were really screaming at that dead raccoon a bit ago.

Gah!!!!

3 chickens missing this morning
sad.png

I'm in the process af rearranging and developing new pens and apparently it wasn't quite secure. Darn my luck with these things!!! I'm beating myself up on the loss of two beautiful Colombian Wyandottes and lovely hen that was laying the prettiest mint green eggs. What kind of critter can grab 3 chickens and get away with the only sign being a couple of feathers strewn about

It will be an evening of pen adjusting after work today and my faverolles are going to be quite upset with being locked up today.
