***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I received a VERY generous gift of a trio of Cream Legbars from a fellow Okie to replace some of the chickens I lost in my recent owl attack. I will be forever grateful and shall pay the generosity forward from this trio of birds. In the spirit of Christmas I have named them Faith, Hope and Nick. Okies looking out for Okies....LOVE IT!

Watching them reminded me of the old Tootsi Pop commercials: How many licks does it take to get to the center (of an egg sickle)? Coffee's gone. Better finish the rest of the pens.

That is awesome. I experienced a similar okie generosity when the NN chicks I ordered all arrived dead and dying and the hatchery wouldn't do anything about it.

Evening, Okies

It's cold and slick outside. I saw a line of coyote shadows when I closed up the goat shed tonight. The coyotes were moving quickly, headed west, following our north fence line. There seem to be more coyotes this winter than last. I'm glad Vesta is on the job. She lets the coyotes know that the yard is off limits.

The Cornish roo seems better. I've got a broom handle spanning his cage in the barn. He will sit next to it, and under it, but I can't get him to roost on it yet. I'm going to put another cross bar in tomorrow, to give him a choice of roosts. It occurred to me today, when he didn't turn in my direction when I opened the barn doors, that he might have a vision problem. Maybe he doesn't see well enough to judge the height of the roost. Maybe I need to get the roo some chicken glasses mentioned earlier today : )
